Let's also keep in mind that Ann Romney didn't have any of the financial challenges faced by other mothers, particularly single moms.

The libs in this thread, like Rosen, are simply showing who they are. The class warfare and class envy that has consumed the democratic party for decades is part of their DNA. The contempt they hold people who have made a success of their lives and have a lot of money as a result can't be helped.

The only thing that blunts that reaction is if you are a democrat with a sh!tload of money. Then you're ok. Then, by virtue of the "D" next to your name, you are magically gifited with understanding the concerns of the poor and middle class in this country.

That's why John Kerry can be worth a few hundred million dollars but still be a champion for the middle class and poor. Why Pelosi can be worth close to 60 million and yet opine about the struggle of working mothers and not be ridiculed like those doing so to Ann Romney.

It would be funny if it weren't so transparent and pathetic.

Anyone that has never been poor cannot say they know what it's like to be poor. I don't care what letter is next to your name. This isn't partisan, this is Romney claiming a mantle of understanding that he simply cannot have.

He is not being criticized for being rich, he's being criticized for being clueless about it. He's rich, he should just own it (no pun intended) and not claim to be something he's not.

Yeah. I'm sure Teresa Heinz would have been a much better advocate for working women given her years of struggle trying to make ends meet. 01-wingedeagle

First, you weren't criticizing him, you were being critical of his wife. You said "she never worked." She never claimed she experienced all that working women experience, she said she listens to them on the campaign trail and Mitt says she tells him what she hears.

Mitt is being criticized, the attacks on his wife are seperate from that. And you are deluding yourself to actually believe this isn't about class envy. Obama's ENTIRE reelection campaign is being built on class warfare and class envy. It requires a complete ignoring of reality to claim otherwise.

You're a f'n retard.

Quote:“'Mitt and I walked to class together, shared housekeeping, had a lot of pasta and tuna fish and learned hard lessons.'

“'We had our first child in that tiny apartment. We couldn’t afford a desk, so we used a door propped on sawhorses in our bedroom. It was a big door, so we could study on it together. And we bought a portable crib, took the legs off and put it on the desk while we studied. I had a baby sitter during class time, but otherwise, I’d hold my son on my lap while I studied.

“'The funny thing is that I never expected help. My father had become wealthy through hard work, as did Mitt’s father, but I never expected our parents to take care of us. They’d visit, laugh and say, "We can’t believe you guys are living like this." They’d take us out to dinner, have a good time, then leave.

“'We stayed till Mitt graduated in 1971, and when he was accepted at Harvard Law, we came east. He was also accepted at Harvard Business School as part of a joint program that admits 25 a year, so he was getting degrees from Harvard Law and Business schools at the same time.

“'Remember, we’d been paying $62 a month rent, but here, rents were $400, and for a dump. This is when we took the now-famous loan that Mitt talks about from his father and bought a $42,000 home in Belmont, and you know? The mortgage payment was less than rent. Mitt saw that the Boston market was behind Chicago, LA and New York. We stayed there seven years and sold it for $90,000, so we not only stayed for free, we made money. As I said, Mitt’s very bright.

First of all Romney never said "she knows what its like to be poor" so put the f'ing straw man down and talk plainly...

What he said, that Rosen responded to, was that "What my wife tells me is that women are concerned about the economy, that's the issue that is important to them"

Funny because libs whine and cry about a gop focus on obama care, or on religious rights, and say its not important. However, when a GOPer says it all the sudden it's "shut the hell up, what do you know"

I don't consider myself poor. I was born into the lower middle class and now live in the middle/middle class. I make enough that my wife does not have to work so to some, I am rich, we can only afford one car so to some I am poor.

But my wife, who stays at home with the kids, knows our finances better than I do. Stay at home moms know the finances and weather you make 20K or 20 million a year you worry in this economy.

It may not be partisan for you. But it is for the majority of liberals who are attacking Ann Romney. I think for you it's that you don't know what Romney actually said because if you did, I don't think you'd characterize it in the manner you are.

I would hope you could at least acknowledge that this is a calculated approach by Obama and the democrats to promote class warfare and class envy. And the attacks on Mitt and Ann are extensions of it.

I brought up Mitt because you decided to throw John Kerry into the mix. I'm fine sticking to Ann if you are.

Class politics are fair game. I don't think it's the strongest campaign foundation but there's no reason why it can't be in scope for the campaign.

But wait... I thought Ann Romeny had never worked (raising kids at home) because she was rich (even though they struggled when in college). I thought it was not about the stay at home mom part... I thought it was the rich part..

When has Michelle Obama been a struggling single mom who could not put food on the table?

She knows what it's like to be poor. She knows what it's like to have a career. If she (or her husband) ever said that she knows what it's like to be a poor, working, single mom then I'd call her out on it too because she's never had that combination.

We have view life through the experiences we've had. We can try to empathize with others that are going through things we've never experienced but that's the best we can do. We can't "know" if we've never been there.

How do the posters on this board view mothers on welfare? Should they have to get a job or does being a mom count as work?

Marriage is a unit. Mothers with husbands do have income, their husbands. Since taxpayers pay welfare, none of those skanks are my bride.
