Petrino Fired?
That's what ESPN is reporting. Jeff Long has called a press conference for 7:15 pm tonight.

I for one am shocked. Not because that Petrino would be fired for what he did, but that the Chickenhawgs would actually fire such a successful football coach. Maybe they do have some integrity up there and won't let the guy slide because he wins football games. But I'm having a hard time believing that. We'll see at 7:15 pm.

According to Mike Irwin, Jeff Long was ready to retain Petrino but he would not agree to the disciplinary penalties proposed by Long. Arrogant until the end. Really almost impossible to believe.

When Jeff Long found out about the $20,000 "gift" to the gal, and that she was chosen for her job over 151 other applicants, Long's hands were tied. I don't believe that he offered Petrino a way to keep his job. He just did what he had to do, and was very impressive in the press conference tonight.

Very impressive. I think he said 159 applicants, but who's counting. i wish my son could make 57,000 dollars at age 25. That 20K "gift" was a pretty amazing bit of information. I wonder how he got either Petrino or Jessica to admit to that. Obviously, it was then confirmed by the other party. A pretty sordid situation. Don't think Long had much choice, but he handled a difficult situation in a very classy manner.

From my limited HR and management training, that in itself is a no no. I'm sure the University is in damage control for potential lawsuits related to folks that were qualified for the position. Especially that Long acknowledge they didn't do the normal timeframe for the hiring process.
