ECU still in opportune position (concerns Louisville)
The article talks of Cincinnati and Louisville to Big 12. May be rehashing old news. But again ECU may have new information. So I linked for you.

The article, however, could be just one big pipe dream. 04-cheers

IMO it's just wishful thinking, and making the best of a bad situation. Anything to give people hope...

It really is ashame that the Big East added SDSU instead of East Carolina.

Wilkie, I've got to be honest here. I could give a 01-rivals what The BEast does. Whatever it does, it'll be without the Mountaineers... 07-coffee3

Well, Bit, neither will I when Louisville leaves, but we are stuck here for the present.

I'm beginning to think the Big East should never have invited Boise St. because of the teams we had to take in to accommodate them. I have nothing against the Aztecs as they are an up and coming program, but Southern Mississippi would have been a far better choice along with East Carolina in an "Eastern" league. As for West Virginia, if they had of stayed, the Big East would have been more than a solid football league.
Big East North ***** Big East South
Rutgers *************South Florida
Cincinnati ************Central Florida
Navy ****************Memphis
Connecticut ***********Houston
West Virginia **********SMU
Louisville *************East Carolina
Temple **************Southern Mississippi

I wouldn't. All of WVU's historical rivals would be in the ACC. Without Pitt, I'd prefer to avoid The BEast hybrid and all that it entails......

Yup all that's left for WVU is kid brother Rutgers at that point. As it is all of WVU's historical rivals/traditional opponents are in the ACC sans for Penn State, Rutgers and Temple. Its three or four biggest rivals are in the ACC certainly. (Pitt, Maryland, VT and perhaps Cuse)

This is about the only article I've seen that lists Cincinnati as any sort of B-12 candidate. On that basis alone, I think it's a bunch of baloney.

Unfortunately for Rutgers, Mountaineer fans don't feel the same kind of hatred for the Knights. It's hard to hate somebody you've been beating regularly for decades...

If only Rutgers had decided to become competitive earlier... 07-coffee3

BJ, UC has an outside shot. But it has a fairly miniscule probablility of coming to fruition...

RE: ECU still in opportune position (concerns Louisville)
Louisville's rivals are primarily basketball schools. Our football rivals (and I don't count WVU because we haven't played them that many times) would be Southern Mississippi, Cincinnati, Memphis, and Kentucky. Outside of them Louisville doesn't have any traditional football rivals. I remember when our football program looked up to Southern Mississippi as the kind of program we wanted to be. They owned us for the longest time until we started to take football more seriously when the Pipe was hired. When we go to the Big XII we will have no football history with any of the teams except WVU and TCU and there isn't much with them either. It's going to really feel weird for me watching Louisville play Iowa State and Texas Tech. Oh well....

RE: ECU still in opportune position (concerns Louisville)
It's going to be strange for me this fall too, LBTW. No Brawl to look forward to. No battle for the Schwartzwalder Trophy. No chance to extend WVU's winning streak over Rutgers to 20 straight years. No chance to prove to UC, UConn, UofL, and USF that the Beast of the East still resides in Morgantown...

But WVU only has 4 true road games, 7 home games, and a matchup against FCS power JMU @FedEx Field. Oklahoma, the preseason Big XII favorite, comes to Morgantown. WVU's first trip to Austin will be against a rebuilding Longhorn team people are voting into the preseason top 25 on their history and a prayer. Baylor is in deep doo doo. Oklahoma State needs to find replacements for Weeden and Blackmon. TCU is dealing with their own issues. I doubt Texas Tech, Kansas, or Iowa State will give WVU problems. I'm not convinced Kansas State can either. It's not like WVU hasn't seen a running QB and the read option before...

All WVU's skill people are back (Geno, Tavon, Steady, RBs). The Mountaineers are loaded and have a pretty good shot at winning the Big XII's BCS bid in our initial conference campaign. Even if WVU falls short on the Big XII BCS bid, the Mountaineers will still stand a good shot at an at-large bid. I'm pumped...
