10 Coaches to Replace Bobby Petrino If He's Fired

Quote:The future of Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino is uncertain. Although Petrino sports an impressive 34-17 record in four seasons with the Razorbacks, he could be in danger of losing his job, after lying to athletic director Jeff Long about the details of his motorcycle wreck last week. Petrino did not inform Long that Jessica Dorrell – an Arkansas athletic department employee – was riding with him, despite indicating so in the police report.

Taver Johnson has been selected as Arkansas’ interim coach, but what if Bobby Petrino is fired? The Razorbacks likely won’t hire a full-time head coach until the end of the 2012 season, but it’s always interesting to ponder the possibilities.

If Bobby Petrino is fired, here are 10 coaching candidates Arkansas could target at the end of the 2012 season –

Dave Doeren, head coach, Northern Illinois – Doeren did a nice job with Northern Illinois in his first season, leading the Huskies to the 2011 MAC Championship with an impressive 11-3 record. Doeren has made stops as an assistant at Montana, Kansas and Wisconsin and so far, has been a good hire for Northern Illinois. With just one year of head coaching experience, Doeren may be too green for the Arkansas position if it comes available at the end of the 2012 season.

It seems like the possibility of losing people is what puts us on the national stage media-wise.

Green or not, a coach moving from the MAC to the SEC...I just don't see it without any real connection to the SEC school.

It IS good for his name (and our school) to keep getting this type of press though. It shows that the program is doing something right.

I see zero chance of DD getting the Arkansas job. The more likely scenario is losing him to a vacancy created by someone else moving to Fayetteville.

Yea, though I like DD, he had 1 year as head coach at a MAC school, with a team that was destined to do well as long as the defense had a pulse. Not enough there yet for an SEC job. If he keeps it up he'll be a good candidate though, unfortunately for us.

Petrino is getting little sympathy and I know why, but I wonder about his physical condition.

The injuries seem pretty bad.

I recently saw a man perhaps Petrino's age in a local hospital with similar injuries and he was getting morphine while awaiting surgery.

The right decision by Arkansas in many ways. I read an interesting spin, I forget where, that argued Arkansas should fire him, not just because of the moral and lying to his bosses issues, but because it was going to be hard for Petrino to go get recruits after the debacle with the Falcons and now this incident.

That's about a 20/day average over the course of 7 months. Considering his girlfriend is of the texting generation, that's not too shocking. Especially when the article says they "exchanged" that many texts. So he accounts for maybe half of them let's say.

In the 10-ish months since I got my current phone Mrs. Tracks and I have exchanged about 3100 hundred texts and we're in our early to mid 30s.

The really high volume on certain days was a little more surprising, but if those were mostly from her, it would be less so.
