Sanford is an old city with a fairly diverse population. Being and old Southern city, it has fairly segregated communities. IIRC, this killing happened right near the border between Sanford and Lake Mary. Lake Mary is a very safe community made up of mainly executive type families (all races) with higher incomes. Moving out from there, you hit a couple of nicer/newer subdivisions of Sanford (where Zimmerman lived) before you move into a much lower income area in Sanford, which is where the magnet middle school was that my oldest child went to.
