William Ayers: 'I get up every morning thinking ... today I'm gonna end capitalism'

Published April 01, 2012 FoxNews.com

William Ayers, in a pep talk to an Occupy Wall Street gaggle, said he wakes up every morning thinking about how he's going to end capitalism -- though he acknowledged he goes to bed "every night disappointed."

The co-founder of the radical, Vietnam-era Weather Underground was videotaped chatting up what was identified as an Occupy Union Square group this past week in New York City.

In the tape, he told the crowd that he doesn't consider himself an optimist or a pessimist.

Rather, he said: "I get up every morning thinking, today I'm gonna make a difference. Today I'm gonna end capitalism. Today I'm gonna make a revolution. I go to bed every night disappointed, but I'm back again tomorrow. That's the only way you can do it."

Ayers' past ties to President Obama stirred trouble for the Democratic candidate when he was running in 2008. The two worked together on a charitable board starting in the mid-1990s, and Ayers once hosted a campaign event for Obama when he first ran for the Illinois Senate.

Obama, though, distanced himself from Ayers. And Ayers himself wrote in late 2008 that the two were not close.

I sit on a board and I barely know the others on it, just say hi and maybe make small talk the once a month we meet. For all I know they're all Nazis. Guilt by (extremely weak) association

I don't know why people with such strong anti-American feelings stay here. This loon needs to go someplace where he won't go to bed disappointed. Cuba is not far away, Venezuela is a little farther and I'm sure he can afford the plane ticket. But then again, he just might be happy in California, capitalism died there a long time ago.

03-lmfao I actually hope Faux News keep writing this crap. It only HELPS Obama rather than their desired outcome.

Started his political career at Ayres house, but only said Hi according to Mini. But Zman needs to be lynched.

How are his feelings necessarily anti-American? He probably means well and thinks he's trying to save America by supporting socialism. Hell I disagree too but I'm not going to impugn his motives.

Ayers held a campaign coffee. Lots of random influential people of both parties hold coffees for candidates in their neighborhoods. It doesn't make them best friends with the candidates they're supporting (just that they think they're better than the other guy) . You must not have been involved in a campaign before.

You're not on a board with the founder of a well-known terrorist group... And your career didn't start in his living room.

RE: Obaffoon's Friends
Ha, for all I know one of them was in Weather Underground. They're almost all old. And if they were I'm not going to resign because of it. How does that help the board's (charitable) cause? That's something the guy who makes the appointments should have considered.

If I ran for office, I'm going to agree to attend coffees in the houses of all people who can help me win. Ayers was influential in his area and was a key to winning the election. That's how the game is played in both parties. Take it from me, I've been involved in multiple campaigns, from congressional on down. Hell I have a cousin who was an Obama intern (when he was in the senate). Just because people work together in political campaigns doesn't make them friends or in agreement on all/any issues.

And just because a parishioner goes to a given Church for nearly TWENTY years doesn't make them friends or in agreement on all/any issues.

The ability of a human being to rationalize is beyond breathtaking.

Honestly I think Obama's choice of church is a political calculation as well, because it was a very large church in his senate district. This is all stuff smart people do when they intend to run for office. Join the Rotary Club, NRA (if you're on the right), Knight of Columbus (if it's a big Catholic district).... all sh!t smart aspiring pols do. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just how it is.

I do too. And, if you don't take the time to do your homework about the organization or your fellow board members, you are a empty suit.

Is it smart for a politician to belong to an organization thats racist and hates this country? Obama blew it with Rev Wright and got away with it.

It worked to get him elected in Illinois. If he doesn't get elected in Illinois, he doesn't get elected President of the United States.

Exactly Robert. It worked fantastically, actually.

I am miserable.
I am always miserable.
But it's not MY fault. My position in no way reflects the choices I made!
I need a Villain!
The "Man", the Rich, the White man, the Privileged, brussel sprouts. It doesn't matter.
Not even politics really. More a study of human nature... personal responsibility is a radioactive concept.

YOU and YOUR fools failed miserably with Rev. Wright.

YOU and YOUR fools failed to prove Obama, Wright or his church as racist and/or anti-American.

Don't blame Obama for it.

But hey, keep on thinking it you shallow excuse for a human! 03-wink

Failed to prove Wright as anti-American or racist? You can't be serious.

Either you've never listened to what the man has preached from that pulpit or you're deluding yourself.

Any person that gloats over 9/11 and says "GD America" is not what one could readily describe as pro-American.

Except that the two had a relationship well before he ever ran for Senate.

Quote:The sign stayed until the end of apartheid, --long enough to catch the eye of a young Barack Obama, who visited the church in 1985 as a community activist. Obama, was not a churchgoer at the time, but he found himself returning to the sanctuary of Trinity United. In Wright he had found both a spiritual mentor and a role model.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/polit...4186.story

Does that mean you're wrong, or that you believe Obama was simply planning to run for office during his time as a community organizer, instead of actually helping people like he was supposed to?

And do you think Obama's decision to have Wright perform his wedding ceremony, baptize his daughters, and name his book after one of Wright's sermons were purely due to political aspirations?

The guy's a veteran. He get's a little more latitude in my book.

Also, most of you focus on out of context snippets of 2-3 sermons from a 20+ year career. Very dangerous thing to do.
