I've wanted Gregg Marshall for a long time now. But I understand that he laughed in our general direction...that was before we upped our budget, though

This search is taking longer than I expected.

If they get it right, the timing won't matter. But for now, it's starting to look bad.

Nothing has gone south for us regarding the timing. We haven't missed out on anyone we were going to get based upon how long we are taking (not Weber, not anyone). We did want Buzz but we all knew that was a long shot, and in the end, he only listened to get a raise + freedom from the AD (which was my feeling all along).

From the limited information I've been able to gather (people who actually know things aren't talking), I think that SMU's list includes Amaker (Harvard), Greenberg (Virginia Tech), Benford (Marquette assistant), and one or two more current NCAA head coaches (maybe Johnny Jones at UNT?).

Chas Wolfe (@highmajorscoop on Twitter) seems to think we are courting Pastner. While I would love Pastner, I don't think we are after him and I don't think he would listen if we were.

While I would have preferred to wrap up a candidate quickly, I am slowly starting to get a sense that we have a plan. Stay tuned.

I've often wondered about this possibility. The guy can recruit, and if he cleans up his act could be a major asset. But oh man, the media and everyone at SMU would be going crazy with this.

RE: Coach Larry Brown to SMU?!?
The late (old timers still call it the regular signing period...with the November one being EARLY signing period) signing period for hoops begins next Wed (Aprill 11th), and while most top to good players signed back in Nov, many others just gained their academic eligibility and/or will finally begin to make their decision by signing on the dotted line next Wed.

Some recruits are taking official recruiting trips this weekend.

Thats just one of the reasons why most school wish they would have their new coaches on board prior to this weekend.

That's true but to the best of my knowledge, we are already full (signed three in the early period)

Most teams end up with slight changes to their roster each and every year...as kids leave programs routinely (usually in search of more playing time), and when coaching changes come (usually a change in style too), much larger waves of roster changes are the norm...which is another reason why AD's want their new staffs in place well before signing period in April opens.
