RE: Could be good news for Boise...
How is this good news for Boise? Is it the implication of opening up a spot in the Big West?

It doesn't look like that league wants to leave California anyway. But we'll see.

Yes, in the past the BW Commish has mentioned wanting to get to 12. They added Hawaii so there's precedent for them going outside CA.

It shure would be nice to get Boise and SDSU together in the Big West if possible. I wonder if they would also be open to taking AFA if they moved?

Well, Boise State has been in the Big West before...

So, it's not like the conference has never been more spread out...

Hawaii also subsidizes their travel expenses. Not sure Boise wants to do that.

Plus,

Free trips to Hawaii >>>>>>>>> trips to Boise, ID free or not

And that is nothing person against our Potato loving brethren. But I think they would agree with me.

There is definitely a potential benefit for the Big West by adding Boise State basketball...

Their (as quo would put it) 'brand' is more visible than ANYONE they could possibly add. Granted, BSU is known for football. However, that doesn't mean they can't parlay that good name into a decent Big West basketball program.

If they want to get to 12 there arent a whole lot of better options available and it would make their new Daddy(SDSU) very happy..

I think Boise is waiting to see where everything shakes out to make a decision. The hold an invite to the WAC, but they have other options.

I rank the potential options for Boise's olympic sports as this:

1. MWC drops football (teams merge into CUSA) and Boise and SDSU stay put.
2. Join Big West with SDSU
3. Stay in WAC and help get new members (AFA?)
4. Try to join Big Sky or MVC

1. Hopefully this will lead to the WCC going to 12 and adding Seattle and Denver. The WCC is well on their way to being the "Big East" (pre-football version) of the West Coast. Adding in two big market schools like that and giving them homes would help their programs develop.

2. On the Big West, they'll be at 10. What are the California politics to make them accept UCSD and CSU-Bakersfield instead of Boise? And would Air Force be interested? Seems AFA had a flirtation with the Missouri Valley, which seems like a better home for them.

Well if we add Fresno we know the Big West would take them and they would still need a 12th team. im sure their two newest members would then have a suggestion for that last school. 05-stirthepot

This would be great for Boise. UConn is plaing them home and home, which will hopefully bolster their profile.

I think the MVC said no, but with Creighton possibly leaving for the A-10, they might pick up AFA. Still, AFA is pretty far from the majority of the MVC schools.

1. WCC is stay at 10 and don't think they'll be adding Seattle or Denver anytime soon. Otherwise they would have invited either one of those rather than Pacific.

2. True...BW is staying at 10. They turned down CSU-Bakersfield and UC-San Diego failed to pass the referendum to mov to Div. 1. With Pacific leaving, there are now more So Cal in footprint with the exception of UC-Davis. Boise will have to pay for travel and I believe that is why they look to go to the WAC even with the addition $$ from BE football.

I live in the Puget Sound and for my personal desires I want Boise to be in a conference with Seattle. I hope the WAC survives and can see it growing into a great Oly sports only conference.

I feel the same way. The WAC is a visible brand that is too valuable not to be kept alive. There will be new OLY candidates that will appreciate the rub.

An invite to the Big West would go a long way in alleviating my fears for the future of our athletic department. The WAC is a steamy crap taco that nobody wants to take a bite of.

Actually traveling to San Jose or Reno would be further trips for Air Force than the furthest MVC school Indiana State
