Did I miss something?

Is Nagy running a different defense this year? It seems like the article alludes to a "new defense." Or is that just Hazel referring to a new position change?

RE: Defense
Sounds like a new scheme but web site lists Defense as "Hybrid 4-3" with two Linebackers plus Defensive Backs and a Rover on depth chart-position breakdowns, same as last season.

RE: Defense
From Sunday's MLive article re Scrimmage we are definitely going to some type of three-man line Defense as our base.

Term "Hybrid" suggests mix of 3-4 and 4-3. Hopefully not Rodriguez's (in)famous 3-3-5/3-5-3.

RE: Defense
They are working on their "Hokie" package. Thats what they called it when Shafer was here. On passing downs or against spread teams, they go to this defense. With McKinney and Hazel being able to play LB, I think they are trying to spread the field with athletes, and at the same time, still be able to get after the QB.

RE: Defense
More 4-2-5 I suspect. Washington huskies then VT started dropping down a safety in their 4-3 and playing cover 3 with safety types at both OLB. Washington was alo moving in and out of bear which is what we did under Edlund at wmu. I still use a lot of the huskie drills in my practices.
