D-I players transferring
It is the season when players begin looking for new homes.

As I've suggested, the chance of any CMU transferees ending up at EMU are somewhere between 'slim and none'. I say 'none'.

As I mentioned before, the MAC apparently has a rule that transferees in FB and hoops must sitout a transfer year BUT it isn't treated as a redshirt year. It is a lost year.

Michael Talley a soph G from Melvindale is leaving Duquesne. Ave. 7.5 PPG as a true soph. Would be an interesting transfer for a LOT of mid-major schools. Apparently got stuck behind an impact player at his position.

Apparently 3 UofM players.

THE OLD STAFF UNDER RAMSEY RECRUITED TALLEY PRETTY HARD. YOU CAN BET HIS FATHER IS SOMEWHAT BEHIND THIS.

NOT A BIG FAN OF RECRUITING TRANSFER GUARDS, GUARDS ARE PLENTIFUL FROM THE TRANSFER ROUTE, JC ROUTE AND OF COURSE THE PREP ROUTE.

IF I WERE LOOKING FOR TRNASFERS, I WOULD BE LOOKING FOR THE BIG FELLAS.

TRANSFERS - MOSTLY BECAUSE OF THE INEVITABLE PT ISSUE.

JC route?

I'd take a good transfer before a JUCO.

E.g., Talley over say a Harper.

I like transfers.

Yes, big men are priorities, BUT you can only take who is available.

Big men are very hard to find. Many MAC teams end up with projects, e.g., Balkema and Janton

A few transfers are fine but it is a short term fix, not a way to build a solid program. I'd prefer players who made EMU their FIRST choice, not someone who failed elsewhere. No more transfers please, let's get some guys the old fashioned way.

Depends what their names are.

If the names are Zeigler, McBroom, Talley, etc., I say go for the transfers.

(P.S. this is hypothetical because Zeigler and McBroom are current MAC players and it is difficult to transfer within the conference).

Maybe Dennis knows about Brundidge who committed early to UofM but only saw limited PT as a frosh.

EMU was LUCKY to get big men like Riley, Bryant, Harrison, etc. as transfers. They are all 6'6" or taller and players that size are hard to find.

RE: D-I players transferring
there have been plenty of transfer success stories at EMU (George Gervin), in the MAC (i loved Haminn Quaintance at Kent a few years ago) and in the tournament right now (Brandon Wood). i'll take a quality player any way we can get them. there are a lot of ways to build a good team.

Would you prefer a 2-star recruit (and I'm not sure most of Ramsey's recruits were that 'highly' rated) vs. 3 and 4 star recruits who transfer???

Brundidge (SG) from UofM was a 4 star recruit who committed to UofM as a soph.

Lot of transfers are SITUATIONS, as Dennis hinted with his reference to PT.

Don't forget many want to come home, e.g., Derek Thompson, Riley, etc.

Brundidge didn't get the PT he wanted and someone will pick up a good player.

Trey Ziegler/McBroom at CMU are cases where the coach's firing opens them up.

Man, I'd take Riley, Bryant, Harrison, etc. over anything Ramsey recruited in the last few years!!

Also, what I like about transfers is that things happen so quickly and not like three and four star recruits who are recruited beginning in their sophomore year and that saga drags on for several years.

Players become available in March/April and try to get a scholarship at a new school in short order.

Here is an article on Talley from Rivals.com. Don't know if non-subscribers can access it.

Riley wanted to come home! Ha ha, very funny. More like his mom wanted him to LEAVE the 'Cuse because he was not going to get off the bench this year. As for Brundidge, he obviously was way overrated. A 4 star recruit should be able to get his butt off the bench for a team of Michigan's caliber. In restrospect, he's probably really a 2 star recruit in ability. Also, word has it that McBroom is a Mid-major type player and nothing spectacular.

RE: D-I players transferring
Actually Riley received a one semester transfer sitout 'break' from the NCAA because of family health issues.

I remember hearing the story but forgot the details. Similar to Derek Thompson.

As far as Brundidge, McBroom, etc. considering some of what we had on our team last year, I'd take either in a heart beat. They should not be compared to D.J. Cooper.

Ditto Michael Talley. Talley, I presume, would have started last year at PG had he been at EMU.

Got to remember it is all relative. Any center transfer candidates, e.g., would be compared to Balkema and Janton and not to Theron Wilson or Marcus Kennedy.

Fair points. I just don't want us to get too carried away with transfers because if their schools really wanted them to stay, most probably would. I was guilty as anyone with regards to Riley. No one was more excited than me. He looked great in practice, he had the Country Day/Syracuse pedigree, and then we actually saw him play in 'real' games and...let's just say, I hope he works his tail off this summer to get better.

Damn I can't believe all the love I showed Talley.

This is almost a 'I-want-Talley-to-EMU thread'.
