Bearcats vs. Fordham in FB
Since i can't find the original FB schedule thread:

Quote:Fordham replaces TCU on UC football schedule
03/26/12 at 1:36pm
Written by bkoch

Fordham has replaced TCU on UC’s 2012 home football schedule, giving the Bearcats two FCS schools (formerly Division I-AA) on their seven-game home schedule. Delaware State is the other one.

“There’s a lot of I-A schools that have one (FCS team on their schedule) and will continue to have one,” said UC athletic director Whit Babcock. “But two is not ideal. When TCU was going to be in the league, it’s my understanding we were going to eight conference games. When they dropped out, it went back to seven, so we had to fill that game.”

The Fordham game is scheduled for Oct. 13, with Delaware State on Sept. 15. Fordham, which was 1-10 last year, played Big East member Connecticut, losing 35-3.

The Bearcats will open the season on either Sept. 6 or Sept. 8 at home against a Big East opponent, possibly in a national ESPN game. The Big East is expected to announce its schedule this week.

Babcock also said that UC will raise season ticket prices for 15 percent of Nippert Stadium, but will lower prices for 54 percent of the stadium.

“With the ticket prices, going from six (home) games to seven games is somewhat of a justification to go up,” Babcock said. “We looked at some of our most premium seating and with about 15 percent there will be a slight increase. The rest of the stadium we felt was overpriced, so we’re lowering the price to get some of our younger alumni engaged.”

TCU, which accepted membership into the Big East Conference in November 2010, opted instead to join the Big 12 during the most recent conference membership shuffle. Babcock said UC tried to fill the open date left by TCU with a game against another Division I school, but was unable to find a suitable opponent.

“I was intent on getting to seven home games,” Babcock said. “We accomplished that. I guess we could have gone on the road and played a BCS team for the money, but they wouldn’t have returned the game. There were other BCS schools that would have played us but we couldn’t match up the dates.”

Babcock said UC had discussions with schools from the Big 12 and the Southeastern Conference and also had discussions with Florida State from the Atlantic Coast Conference “but the dates didn’t match up or they just want to play us one time and didn’t want to return the game.”

Alright then. 7-5 for bowl eligibility.

Dammit.

Koch narrative for 2012 football "although 2 of UCs wins are against FCS schools".
For Bball it was attendance and the fight.

Don't expect anyone had BSpn to overlook this fact either if the Bearcats have any success. Apparently all cupcake games are not created equal.

I'm not getting upset about this one... at least we have a schedule.

I have not missed a home game since 2003, but Any other year I might not attend the two UC games against FBS teams as a protest, but honestly this was pretty unavoidable. Teams leaving, OSU dropping, TCU never joining, etc... UC just got put in a bad situations. Sucks, but so be it.

Crap. Can't believe we couldn't get an FBS school scheduled.

I think they are all scheduled except for maybe the MAC schools now that Temple left? I agree this stinks but it sounds like the AD is committed to making this only a one time event. Some other BCS schools have purposefully scheduled two 1-AA teams in the same year in the past. What I took away from that article is that we apparently have a bye the first weekend? Not good because those bye weeks come in handy during the year when guys are banged up.

More important (IMO) would be to have a tune-up game prior to opening with a BE opponent. Since we won't have that, it'll make a big difference.

Probably will be Pitt at home to open the season. I believe that they are the only BE school with an opening that week.

UC was put into a very difficult position losing WVU and TCU on the schedule. Scheduling, with an expanded big east, will be much
easier.

There were a slew of schools open including I believe Middle Tennessee State, Houston, and Louisiana-Lafayette. Ideally I would have liked Missouri but they just signed a series with Syracuse.

Oh by the way, UC will probably play a Big East school really early in the season during the week of 9/8 or 9/22 (or both). I wonder if it will be Pitt, at least, as Rag has stated.

Not exactly a really desirable home slate is it?

RE: Bearcats vs. Fordham in FB
Big supporter of the new AD and what he is trying to do and what he got stuck with, but it would nice if we had some more transparency as to how this schedule was put together.

Why were neither of the FCS schools scheduled to be the season opener? Now we will have to play Pitt who will already have a tune up game. If Delaware State nor Fordham could play Sept. 1 then we should have found someone else to take our $500,000.

Why did we not act immediately when TCU announced that they were leaving the Big East? Other schools were able to schedule FBS teams quickly but UC seemed to wait until all the girls at the dance were picked.

Since we all read that the athletic coffers are so thin, why did we not agree to a $1 million payout game at somewhere like Nebraska (they were looking for a game)? Is CBJ that concerned with the 2012 Cats that he would rather not take on another challenge on the road?

And the most important question, why does Bill Koch not ask these types of questions?

Two FCS schools and three teams that played in the MAC last season. Yipppeeee! We will have to go 7-5 to be Bowl eligible. If we don't go 9-3 with this schedule we should be ashamed.
