Article states that there may be some negative financial repercussions if C-USA and MWC dissolve and form new league, plus a loss of one auto NCAA hoops bid. They still may have an "Alliance", though. This could impact how C-USA moves forward with expansion..potential for impact on SunBelt and to a lesser degree, perhaps the MAC as one of our programs could be approached.

I had read (CBS, I think) that because of the complications with the TV contracts that were/are in place that a "merger" rather than an "alliance" would be necessary in order to proceed with new TV contract negotiations.

So this may be a case of you can't have your cake and eat it too.

"Leadership" at this thing is going to have to decide which is the priority. New TV contracts or keeping the NCAA bid/voting structure in place.

Yep....real "powerhouse" programs they are considering adding. What are those guys thinking anyway??

I can't stop wondering WTH they were being told by consultants. How is it a shock that they weren't going to get two autobids? For that matter, when you have 48 teams or whatever, odds are you'll manage two bids anyway so it's not exactly a deal breaker.

It is for the lesser teams. They need every chance they can get for a splash and if you make the pool too large for the expected bid then you reduce your small chances even further. Besides the basketball side is slowly being diminished what with losing SDSU, Memphis, and the like. If you have 24 teams you would need two bids just to be even with us. If we are really good next and have a two bid year they would need four which is more than what CUSA gets right now. It is becoming a taller order and if they lose any more good basketball schools...

The MWC and CUSA fans are now turning their thoughts on canabalizing one for the other to get back to 12+.
