Fish do you have a selective memory?
If you're going to compare that Roy Williams left KU vs. Calipari left Memphis then you need to do more than just throw the subject out there.
Roy Williams made it a point to say he wouldn't take any recruits with him and wouldn't recruit any kid at UNC that he did while at KU.
Can you say the same about Calipari at KYU?
Did Roy Williams try to dictate who KU replaced him with?
Can you say the same about Calipari at KYU?
I hated KYU before Calipari left for the job there.
Its hard to compare either of those situations realistically though. It was a business decision for Cal and he had no personal attachments to either school considering his actions and personality. With Roy, it was a personal emotional decision based on him getting the opportunity to coach his alma mater while being forced to leave the school he loved in KU. The money wasnt ever an issue with Roy. He didnt leave KU for UNC because it was a better job.
People can hate on coaches all they want but Ill never have anything hateful to say about Roy Williams, Coach K, or Tom Izzo. those guys are the utmost of class and coaching. One day hopefully Pastners name can be mentioned alongside them.
Money wasn't an issue when Cal left here, either. We offered him WAY more money and tangible benefits than UK did. Better job, yes, but he was prepared to take the best job that came along, whether it was Arizona, Toronto Raptors, or whatever. He was leaving. Period. UK just came along at the right time.

No one denies Vacate did a very good job at MEMPHIS.
But it really is about HOW he left. It's that simple. Vacate did not "just" accept the dream job at Kentucky. No, Vacate deliberately went well beyond the pale in trying to insure the next coach was forced to rebuild from almost zero.
Do we need to review the list of "hate crimes" Vacate committed? He smothered the Rose-NCAA issue, threw the Missouri game to get to UK ASAP, literally took everything from MEMPHIS that he could, altered the LOI to allow his recruits to leave with him and deliberately stole the recruits (again, Roy Wms did NOT do that to KS), and tried to take as many players as possible while encouraging others to leave (Taggart).
Vacate was NOT going to let any other coach walk into his program at MEMPHIS and have any remaining benefit. Vacate systemically and with full malice tried his dead level best to NUKE the TIGER basketball program. He tried to DESTROY it.
That is what bothers me so much. Why go to those extremes? To what purpose? I know quite a number of the Vacate apologists will shrug this off or try to downplay it, but it is the unvarnished straight up TRUTH. Go back and pull any of the MANY threads from late March 2009 anguishing over how he was treating MEMPHIS on the way out the door. Many "respected" posters were absolutely furious.
Vacate probably will win it all this year. He's got the one and done thing going nicely up there. But if he fails to win the title, then he will be roasted...as he should be.

He had already accepted the job before flying back to Memphis from the Missouri game.

I'm well over Cal at this point. In fact I was over him a few weeks after he left. What he and his team do matter very little to me. That being said, they're going to demolish Louisville in the FF.

I find it highly offensive to compare a possible basketball recruiting incident to a hate crime. Of course, your utter lack of class makes it less surprising you would make such a crude statement.

Maybe some of you have forgotten this video at the airport when Cal expressed his love to Tiger Nation and the city.
It is not the same thing at all. My wife of 46 years and I married for life. It is a lifetime contract, as far as each of us in concerned. (Others don't believe that marriage is a lifetime deal, but we do.)
My University and Cal had a business relationship that was mutually agreeable. It ended when one of the parties found something he wanted to do more. Cal never signed a lifetime contract.
The difference is that as a realistic fan, I said when Cal came that he was a top coach, and if you are at the top of the coaching profession, you have to leave if one of the "big names" calls you. I knew going in that if UCLA, Kansas, Ky, Duke or UNC called, Cal had to take the job.
If you though that Cal was here for life, despite any coach-speak he said about wanting to be here, then you were working under a faulty premise.
The f'ing scumbag then proceeded to destroy, steal, and trash our program and university. He spit in our face as he left, after his lovely wife cleaned out their university clothing account at Oak Hall. He tried to talk at least one of our players into following him as he left campus after turning in his resignation letter. He tried to blackmail the University into hiring the coach he wanted to replace him. When we didn't, he got angry.
It's HOW he left, not THAT he left. Get it?
I will detest that lying, scheming, adultering, POS until my last breath. I am not a miserable. I have a wonderful life. But I NEVER forget when someone hurts our players. I hope the Cards beat the everliving c--p out of his "bought" team on national television. Jones' "buying" right out from under the nose of the U. of Washington on his signing day with one phone call from Dishonest John is just one example of the way Sherman works. I look at his One-and-Dones and just wonder how much money each of them got paid.

A lot of them will never change their mind about Cal and can't stand to hear logic and common sense when concerning him. I will say this until this fanbase lets go of it's infatuation with Cal the program will be held down because as we have seen with Pastner people are going to want him to do the things on the court that Cal did which is just unrealistic. Me personally i'm over it and have been the past two years. Some people don't ever want to be and that's their right, but to me it would suit the program better if everyone quit caring about what Cal and Kentucky do and only care about what the Tigers do. But if some do not want to forgive him and let it go then so be it there is nothing I can do to change it and they have that right to dislike him at every chance.
As for paz and your little situation you wrote about let me give you one. Say your friend of 9 years and for the latter 3 years she is your girlfriend and in that third year when you are so happy together she has that chance to chase her dream. The catch is if she goes and chases it she has to leave and you are tied down and can't go with her. Are you going to tell her not to chase her dream or are you going to be happy and let her go chase it?
It wasn't his dream. He was running AWAY from something, not TOWARD something. Any port in a storm.
He has all those narcissistic hillbillies believing KY was his dream job. Don't believe it for a second.

Cal getting lying about leaving (while negotiating a pretty sweet raise to almost $4M), having us forfeit 38 wins and put on probation, demanding that we hire Barbee as his successor, and gutting our recruiting class bothered me.
If you're going to leave, leave cleanly. Don't take a blowtorch to the place on the way out.
Yeah, and you forgot the game he threw as he walked out. And that he spit in Fred Smith's face. I wish Fred or Tommy West had knocked the h3ll out of him before he left this town.
