I love watching the nBe compete!! #ConferencePride
On the day after Temple got bounced from the tourney by USF, it feels good knowing the South Florida program is writing their basketball history. That's not a thought I'd normally expect to have after an NCAA loss.

I missed seeing the Memphis game last night due to being at the Owls watch party. Nevertheless, I did see them dominate the CUSA tourney and I am greatly looking forward to watching future NCAAs with the Tigers reppin the nBe! They bring that authentic swagg that makes you glad they're on your side!!

And the other nBe schools reppin the Big East in the tournament...
Georgtown, Marquette, Louisville, Cinci, Notre Dame, USF, UCONN...
That's a murderous row by any definition of the word. Going forward, I'll be watching the rest of the tournament with great interest, as I cheer you guys on!! Congrats to Syracuse and West Virginia as well. Way to go, Gents!!

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!!

Add in Memphis and Temple and that is still the strongest hoops conference. The Big East will remain #1 until another conference can develop depth beyond teams 5&6.

The computers say the B1G was the best conference this year. Hope we can change that in the tournament. 04-cheers

Michigan went down to Ohio last night. If all the remaining nBE teams can go far and beat some of those B1G teams, we'll be fine. 04-cheers

I thought computer #'s don't really count because they don't take into account brand? Quo...I'm confused now.

Big East basketball is the best in the country year in and year out. Won't change with the shift either.

You've stupidly confused yourself in these threads by conflating "performance on the field" which has nothing to do with brand, and "media desirability" which has everything to do with brand.

If the issue is "which conference has been best", meaning performed best on the court, then that is determined by looking at things like won-lost record and strength of schedule. Computers can do that. But if the issue is "which conference or team is the more valuable media property" then that has little to nothing to do with who wins games. That's brand.

Ohio beat Michigan in the first round, meaning Ohio has clearly been the better team in this tournament, but of course Michigan is still far more valuable a media property. In basketball legacy terms, Cincinnati has probably been to more Final 4s and won more national titles than Michigan, meaning Cincy would be ranked higher on an "all time best programs" list. So if a magazine like SI put together a list of the all-time best basketball programs, Cincy would be higher on the list than Michigan.

But since Michigan is a much bigger brand-name, Michigan's basketball is more valuable than Cincy's, meaning Michigan would rank higher on a basketball-brand list and any conference would rather have Michigan than Cincy. The Big East would trip all over itself if it could somehow trade Cincy to the B1G for Michigan. We'd do that and throw in UCF, USF, Boise, Temple, and Houston in to the deal as well. Michigan is more valuable a media property than all those put together, at least.

Maybe if a Cincy fan explained this to you it would sink in? 01-wingedeagle

Ditto to the OP! No doubt there are folks at ESPN gnashing their teeth right now at how positive the NBE looks. Didn't lose a step in BB (still #1) and FB looking solid. I wish it was 2013 already.

Rumors are that our leading candidate is assistant coaching a team in the Sweet 16.

Looking forward to the USF game!!

2013 couldn't get here soon enough for me either.

The great thing about USF's success is that I believe it'll help UCF as well. Both programs are so young and similarly 'branded' that their ability to compete so successfully on the biggest stage bodes well for the other.

I can't say enough how smart I think it was to follow the old Pac 10 strategy of designing the league according to pairs (or in Memphis's case there is a rivalry triad) and focusing on rivalries. Both football and basketball are going to be very fun.

Temple-Nova is going to be ramped up a few notches.

Completely agree! Personally I think the NBE is lucky your Houstons, UCFs, etc. were available. A few choice BB schools like Memphis and Temple were available. In eight years we may be thanking Pitt and Cuse for getting the ball rolling, towards our 12-14 team FB conference. The ACC may have stability, but it's in a very obvious downward spiral. The B12 was much closer to imploding than the BE, TWICE!

I only hope the NBE cement this lineup in place somehow with higher exit fees, shared TV revenue, or something... although bona-fide OOC and NC success and TV $$ is probably the only way to really stop more schools from exiting.

CONGRATS ON A GREAT SEASON BULL!!! Your team plays with heart!!

I'm particularly impressed with Collins. Since he's a Houston product, I regret that we missed out on him. However, the wealth of talent that exists in Houston and many of our strongholds (such as Memphis and Dallas) underscores why the new structure of the conference is so potent.
