RE: Round of 32
Big 10 now has 2 teams advancing to the Sweet 16 as well. Could be a few Big 10/Big East match ups if both conference teams win their games.

That's a pretty big BUT.

I think that Syracuse was 3rd in the country in blocked shots . . . and Melo was responsible for half of them. How does a team have its defining characteristic effectively neutered & simply move on?

Melo was not just their "big post player", he was the conference's defensive player of the year. That's a pretty big presence to live without. We're not talking about rallying together for one last big game. We're talking about making a run of 4 straight wins just to get tot he Final four - and doing it against increasingly difficult competition.

No way do I see this not effecting them in a major way. The Cuse will go down in the Sweet 16 if not sooner IMO.

Rakeem Christmas 11 rebounds and 3 blocks against the best rebounding team in the XII. 03-wink

The 3 most recent games he's played significant minutes in...

3/8 UConn - 5 rebounds / 2 blocks / 2 points
3/15 UNC-A - 7 rebounds / 2 blocks / 6 points
3/17 KSU - 11 rebounds / 3 blocks / 8 points

He's coming into his own. He seems to be a good defensive player even though Melo was a different type of defensive player. Melo is unreal.

Melo is a couple inches taller and has far more mass making him more intimidating. Christmas will beef up over the summer.

The Big 10 should have a lot of teams advancing...most of them had really good seeds.

Georgetown sadly let us down, but we have two more games on tap:

Ohio v. USF
Cincy v. FSU

Cheering on USF and Cincy for conference pride.

The Big Ten has earned those seeds this year. That conference has been a beast this season.

The Big East ends up 4-2. Not bad, one quarter of the remaining field. The B1G equals the total, so 1/2 of the remaining teams are Big East or B1G. Clearly the two most dominant conferences this season.

UNC takes a blow by losing their point guard. How much further can they go?

Ohio's PG has been having his way with everyone he's faced so far. With UNC losing their starting PG for the Ohio game, their next game could be their last. The Bobcats are on a roll right now...

I would be highly surprised if UNC lost this game against Ohio, even if their star point gaurd is out. They still are pretty decent. I do however expect UNC to have a better chance of losing to whoever they would play once they get passed Ohio.
