RE: Congrats Bobcats!!!!
ESPN's Andy Katz says UNC is optimistic that Kendall Marshall will be able to return at some point in the NCAA tournament.
WTF is that suppose to mean? Already looking ahead. Will they ever learn?

This is the same Andy Katz who in yesterday's ESPNU college basketball podcast, couldn't remember which conference Ohio is from and thought they finished second in the conference, but won their division. Three strikes and you're out. No, Andy, it's the MAC, they finished 3rd, and they were third in the division. I'm addressing you personally, Andy Katz, because I'm counting on you Googling your name every morning, Andy Katz, to see what is being said about you.
After listening to this podcast post of the season, you really see how empty these guys are. They have the pretense and superficial veneer of knowing college basketball, but they are mostly just filling time and space and have very little of substance to contribute. Andy Katz is particularly awful: aggressive, condescending, and full of trite opinions.

No, the correct answer to that is, "North Carolina."
Who does OU play?
7:47 pm EDT, Friday.

I'm liking the Bobcats' chances. UNC has said they are preparing like Marshall is out, leaving PG very thin. They are one good Henson hand reinjury from trying to smoke and mirror their way past Ohio U.

Funny how the MAC is "beneath them" but they sure wanted Temple and, I'm sure now, Ohio.
Surprise, surprise.

Look at the Temple fan chiming in on something he doesn't know about. Yes, CUSA did make a play for several MAC teams and none took the invitation then when CUSA was in a stronger position than it is now.
Look South and West.

Yeah, it was pretty hilarious how Temple was seemingly their "unanimous" pick all of a sudden...of course they forgot to realize that their chances of bringing Temple in for all sports was nil and none. Now it's like Temple to the Alliance sentiment never happened, and OU is the new eastern "school du jour" for consideration of their mightiness.
I also find their newfound enthusiasm for FIU and FAU to be amusing as well. They look down on the MAC but they want these DIA newbies? FIU was in a bowl against Marshall in the state of Florida and had hardly any fans (maybe 5K) in attendance whereas when the MAC has a regional bowl (Pizza Bowl) we routinely bring 15-20K MAC fans and that is derided.

Ohio was a "crap MAC" school a week ago but is now "the best overall sports program and the best academic option as well. Also, more of a "name" school than the other MAC schools."
That's hilarious on so many levels, but the academics thing is a hoot. Outside of the private schools, the academic profile of the CUSA schools is MUCH LOWER than the MAC schools.
Academics...you have a JC in your midst.

Howl n Prowl: You hit on another reason why C-USA and now the Alliance has the potential to be so dysfunctional. Not only is the geography horrendous, the mission of these schools is so different as to make conhesion almost impossible. What on earth do pretigious, private academic schools like Rice and Tulane have in common with the likes of S-Miss, ECU and Marshall. Answer: nothing. There are differences in the MAC schools, but they are all relatively like-minded medium-sized public Universities with similar financial resources and mission.

RE: Congrats Bobcats!!!!
Here's another gem.
Quote:"Is it really that tough to wrap your minds around the fact there will be NO FOOTBALL CROSSOVER GAMES until the Championship. Oly sports are limited to a couple of weekend tournaments and basketball will be played 80% in your division. I know the MAC and Sunbelt try to discredit this concept but IT WORKS. And it's actually better on travel than CUSA was originally."
They still don't get it. Even with no football crossover games, the travel will STILL BE WORSE not better. A Conference football trip between Greenville, NC and El Paso, TX will now be an ANNUAL thing. Why can't they see that what used to be East teams will now have to play what used to be West teams on an annual basis. That's a CONFERENCE expense/inconvenience that just went up.

That is true if they stay at 16 teams with CUSA and MWC, but their theory is that they will add 8 more teams and go to 4 6-team pods for 24 total teams. 2 east pods and 2 west pods. However as that may solve some of their travel concerns, it will create new ones like being too big and subject themselves to breaking up later or simply just watering-down the quality of the conference with FCS, WAC, and Sun-Belt teams.
I get the feeling they have no idea what they want yet and are already arguing on how big, who's in, scheduling, TV uncertainty, playoffs, NCAA waivers, etc...
The MAC is sitting in a good place right now. If we can get to a solid 14 all-sport teams with JMU or ODU or Middle Tennesse and renegotiate a better TV deal than we will make out ahead of any other non-aq conference.
