Our football stadium bears his name and he's been a very generous donor to SMU over the years. No word yet on if he will be making additional donations to SMU, but it is conceivable that he might help us start the baseball and lacrosse programs that our president wants to have.

It's good news for SMU, and thus it is good news for the Big East.

That plus the fact that SMU owns an oil well plus future Big East revenue allows a lot of possibilities. SMU is a great addition to the new Big East! I visited your campus a few years ago and was very favorably impressed - glad SMU and Memphis are still together.

I would love it if SMU started a baseball program. It would add further fuel to the athletic competition between Houston and SMU.

Can you elaborate on that oil well? any more info? I had no idea and that seems like it would be a great money maker

Baseball would be perfect for the metroplex... but so would lacrosse. Good for Ford, I hope he gives even more love to SMU. We're lucky to have alumni like that.

I think LAX is great BUT there is nothing like college baseball and the road to Omaha.
It's different than any college sport in a GOOD way.

Lacrosse is still a very niche sport. Don't really see it happening. All the D1 lacrosse schools.

Doubt you see baseball anytime soon at SMU. Men's track will come back first. If another men's sport is added then softball will start to keep up with Title IX. Our problem is baseball would have to be played 5 miles away from campus.

Currently...

Turner was looking into new baseball and softball stadiums two-three years ago.

If that happens, SMU would have to buy up and level a bunch of houses, or play quite a few miles away from campus. Our old baseball field was turned into a track/soccer facility.

I thought the plans for the presidential library included a ballpark on the roof. No?

Memphis has a Lacrosse club team. Don't know if it will ever move beyond that, though.

SMU owns a lot of the land just across the highway and that's one of the areas they are considering. They tried to partner with HPHS a few years ago to build a new park that SMU and HP would share, but HPISD didn't want to share facilities
