RE: What happened to the volleyball team?!?
So if I understand the correctly.....
-UW's head coach was at NIU for about a decade, before going to UW for over a decade.
-That UW recently took 1 (2?) of NIUs assistants, one of which was NIUs top vb recruiter and former standout, recruited this Wicinski girl and is her "mentor" for the US National team and was a Jr coach is(was) Kane county.
-Wicinskis parent both went to NIU.
Ironically, from what I read, this asst, Coley Palikowki, was recruited by Waite but then he left for UW. Why didn't she follow him there?
Something smells very fishy about this whole situation. Others have wrote this, and others leaving NIU and smaller schools, is about education and "oppurtunity." I call bull$hit. This player was going to follow Coley wherever she went. Likely why she got to NIU, why she was hired by UW. UW will now be streamlining these girls from that area, NOT NIU. What is hard to comprehend? And her parents are a couple of tools. If you want your daughter to play for her's and your guru, that's fine. If they threatened NIU, f-them. From what I can see, they could care less about NIU, just want the best oppurtunity for their daughter and her guru.
Perhaps this is the best thing for her in that she stays with Coley, but it has ZERO to do with education or better oppurtunity. If she wanted out, from what I read now, I would likely let her if it helps pursue a shot at the National Team and Olympics. HOWEVER, I would NEVER allow this in any other sport, unless the circumstances were this extreme. Football, basketball...NEVER! Make them sit out. And if there were threats or demands of ANY kind, NIU does NOT need to associate with pipelines like that, and mroe than likely it will be dry soon enough. These people are always "opputunists" anyways, which there is nothing wrong with, but cut the umbilical cord and move on and don't look back. Walk away as they did. Otherwise you will only get burnt again. Waite raided the cupboard, the asst took the oppurtunity and Waite knew he was getting a great recuiter he stayed in touch with and a prized player.
But I am sure, as always the chance on this board, that this situation is all blown out of proportion and her parents didn't demand anything.
Second thought, in knowing/hearing football, hockey, baseball and even lacrosse parent stories in Chicagolan, I don't doubt anything.
