I still like just taking the top 8. Middle probably wins this way and we are looking at a 12 seed vs the playin game again. You don't want your conference being known for being in the playin game like the swac every year.

Yes, i know that means we would not have gotten the chance to win 4 in 4 days but as a whole it is better for the league.

Jeff's thoughts work too.

I'm not sure what would be best, but I know I hate getting a bye and having to play a team whose built up some confidence, momentum, gotten the jitters out of their system, and is now more comfortable with the environment. 3 teams with a bye lost their first game and Denver lost their second game. UNT advanced, but this year one team with a bye had to win their first game.

We just need to reward the regular season winners to a greater extent.

RE: I agree with BTH on this statement
I like the idea, but I'd carry it even further. I'd figure out some way to put the league champion in the final game to start with. Second place team automatically goes to the semi final game, and the rest figure out a way to get to play the league champion for the tournament championship. One other thing. I'd play the tournament on the home court of the league champion. Yes that would be an additional advantage for the league champion, but they've earned that if you want the regular season to really mean something. Plus that way you'd be assured of a great crowd for TV purposes for the final game. If I'm in charge, I think I'll have the tournament played that way next year! Only problem I see is that men and women will probably have different champions, so there would have to be something figured out for that. One way would be to have the tournament at the winner of the men's championship one year, and at the winner of the women's championship the next. Don't worry. I'll get it fugured out before next season!

Wow. I thought I'd get all sort of negative reaction to my suggestion, brilliant though it is!

Well, I like the Ivy League system, but I would settle for second-best.
