Problem with changing coaches often
The Chickenhawgs fired Stan Heath (Big East COY) after 2 straight NCAA appearances and with clearly his best team coming back. After a couple of really tough years, he apparently had built up the regional recruiting connections and had the program heading in the right direction. But he is fired and naturally Pelphrey took that senior-laden, talented team to the NCAA tournament; but it seems reasonable to assume Stan may have done a little better since they were "his" players. Then Pelphrey is faced with reloading with few local connections. He has to take chances on kids with "character problems". After 4 seasons the relationships with players and coaches he has slowly built finally pay off and he signs a Top 5 National recruiting class. Add that to his team that won 18 games last year and there is no doubt this year's team was going to the NCAA tournament. Instead he is fired and Anderson is brought in. He can't keep Clark, Bryant, and Peterson and thus has a disappointing season. He is unable to sign Jarnell Stokes and Archie Goodwin, players Pelphrey was on for 2 or 3 years and may have gotten. Now everyone is saying just wait until Anderson gets "his own players". He might very well be successful in a couple of years- there is no reason for him not to be. But it seems to me that firing coaches has hurt the Chickenhawgs, rather than helped, and has delayed for quite a few years what should be a given- with their facilities, financial resources, and fan support it is crazy that they aren't among the top 68 teams in the country ever year.
