Oh I wish...
We were to schedule Cincinnati for a home game this year instead of UT Martin. At this time they only have 10 games scheduled (without Temple), they typically schedule 2 away OOC games yet only have 1 now and they have that date open.

I know it wont happen but man that would be nice.

E-mail Compher. You never know. It makes sense, seemingly. Of course, from an immediate dollars and cents point of view he may say we are going to draw x fans either way and costs are lower with Tenn Martin.

I think I would doubt that answer (if he gave it), but the bottom line is, he may also say, "Hmmmm, let me pick up the phone and let's see what we can do, cause I think you may be on to something!"

You never know, but I would not assume anything.

Unfortunately upgrading our home schedule is equally important as winning to generate interest and keep attendance up. I know Ive said this 100 times but I am really shocked how far behind Toledo we are in scheduling.

To Athletics, it never seems to make financial sense to do the things necessary to incite fan interest and fill our home stadium - Huskie Stadium, not the stadium by the lake that they consider our alternative home.

We ALL need to make it a point that we want to see better OOC teams come to Huskie Stadium. We have to also tell them that we are willing to pay an extra few bucks for season tickets to make that happen.

My #1 think is to stop hosting FCS teams. Lets host a non-AQ at home every year even if it is a lower level one.

Losing to a FCS team at home would lose us more causal fans than if we to gain casual fans from score 100 on a FCS team.

How true DF. Very disappointing that we can't think outside the box here to make a better match up happen. I would love to hear why, other than "we are happy with our schedule"!!!

I understand that it would be some extra work and cost but I think bringing in Cincinnati would be worth it for the program overall. However I know that I don't have all the information and it is true that this years schedule is the best that is has been since 2003 so I am not going to make that much of a stink about it...until 2013 when we only host EIU in OOC play. Then we will see who is announced for the other 2 games in 2014.

I'm sure that they'll say it's a financial reason - we just can't afford to pay the bigger teams. Huskie Stadium can be easily pushed to hold 26K (especially considering the Yordon deck area). The Glass Bowl holds 26K. Toledo brings in bigger opponents. Other MAC stadiums hold around what Huskie Stadium does. Other MAC programs bring in bigger opponents. Is it not a financial issue for Toledo and the other MAC teams to bring in quality opponents? If we are the only one with the financial issue, I suggest we hire new financial people.

Yea, if Toledo can do it, we can do it. Besides, what changed between 2003 and now?

In all reality, NIU has to grind out whatever revenues it can from the football program. The OC Huskie Stadium games will improve when the basketball programs stop being such money pits.

We held 28k for 4 games and with some creativity adding standing room only on the South Berm and putting the Yordon deck to capacity I bet we could break 30k.

+1

Don't forget though, it doesn't matter who the opponent is, we only go to see the Huskies play! 03-lmfao

RE: Oh I wish...
BCS games as we know are gone by 2014 so the idea of scheduling so that IF we are undefeated we will be in the top 16 is just not good enough.

We need to host a AQ school at Huskie Stadium every 3 years MINIMUM. A game at Soldier Field does not count.

We need to host a non-AQ school at Huskie Stadium every year that we don't host an AQ team.

We do not need to host a FCS team...if we cant get 7 wins out of our MAC and OOC schedule we don't deserve a bowl game. Losing to them would be much worse in the long run.

If we need the money then schedule other three away to full fill any 1-1 or 2-1 agreements and the rest is just for the biggest check possible.

I think you're right on about scheduling. Although I do like playing the other state schools occasionally at HS, I could live without it.
