I don't know why but this fascinates me. President John Tyler, born in 1790 and sometimes referred to as His Accidency, still has two living grandchildren! 04-jawdrop

Fascinating is right - interesting perspective on our connection to history - we're really not that far removed from the past.

Boy, the Newt is having a bad week, even grandchildren of past presidents are piling on - ouch.

Wow, that is kinda crazy. Also amusing since Newt often talks about how Dems/Obama don't love "classical America" (whatever that means) and he does. But this guy with a pretty direct connection to "classical America" says Newt's a jerk.

Wow. That is amazing. Here's some more reading ...

Here are two articles on the grandson published in his alma maters' magazines -- William & Mary (Harrison's father, the U.S. president's son, was president of the college) (Winter 2008) and Virginia Tech (Winter 2007).

And here's a profile of his company, ChemTreat.

One former ChemTreat employee didn't much like his management, however (related by his son, in this comment)

Quote:Yes, my father worked for Harrison Tyler at Chemtreat for 2 decades and met him on more than one occasion. Can't say my dad has a high opinion of the man and I know when my father and many others lost a good deal of their retirement money thanks to company mismanagement and underhanded "cost cutting" tactics, Tyler was pretty mum so forgive me if I don't fawn.

Here's a Virginia Living article (February 2009) about the Tyler presidential house and the family.

A little OT, and it might be stretching things to call a one month old baby a "witness." But still historical.

Sounds like it's about time for Harrison and Lyon to get settled down and think about having a family...
