RE: My Post Season Conference Awards
And of course the actual awards don't match up with mine, but there are two disgusting picks that make me question the validity of this whole thing. First, Mr. Do Everything,Toure' Murry was left off of both the first and second teams. I'm not sure there are five better players than him in this conference but I sure as hell know that there aren't ten. He's one of the best defenders and playmakers in the conference. He leads Wichita in assists and steals while being the guy they rely on when they need something to happen. Many teams have tried to stop him and prevent him from doing what he does and they've failed at it.
The second horrid decision is the naming of Greg Echinique as the Defensive Player of the Year. He may have led the conference in blocks due to his teams atrocious defense, but he's not all that good. Carl Hall shot over 70% against him in the two games Wichita played against Creighton. I guess he gets the award for being the most physical player in the conference and having refs pass on more fouls by him than any other player. Just last week he flattened Jake Odum of ISUb towards the end of the game and refs swallowed their whistles. I've seen him absolutely bull over people on offense and mug them on D with no call. I suppose since he gets away with it, he's "good". But he's far from the best defender. Not even the best post defender in the conference. And even more telling, the release by the Valley over the award talks more about his offensive accomplishments than it does his D. If this award wasn't going to one of the two terrific defenders at Wichita, it should have gone to Rayvonte Rice of Drake. If it was going to a post player, than Jackie Carmichael of ISU should have won it.
