Current Bubas Cup Standings
If we (MT) do well in the tourney we'll go far in making up that gap. Could get close down the line.

Named after Vic Bubas, the former Duke basketball coach and first commissioner of the Sun Belt.

Even without football and swimming, USA is still up at 6th, this will be fun to watch.

RE: Current Bubas Cup Standings
Yowzer. No FAU team has finished in the top half of the conference (unless you round up a 6th place in women's cross country) so far this year and three last place finishes. No WKU team has finished in the bottom half. Troy has two last place teams and no team in the top half in any sport. Only one ULM squad has finished in the top half of the league.

You can quibble over how its calculated and whether it is right that it reward playing a lot of sports but as I've said before the all-sports race is interesting to look at. I always look at top half, bottom half, and bottom third finishes because they give you a pretty good idea of the overall health of an athletic program.

While you are correct when you break it down, the overall standings are skewed to those who have good track teams.

After all, indoor, outdoor and cross country takes care of six sports.

Take out all of MT's track points, and we would have still won it the past 3 years.

Cross country is a different beast.

Men's first second and third in cross country WKU, UALR, MT
Men's first second and third in indoor track WKU, MT, ASU (ASU finished 10th in cross country)

Men's bottom three cross country Troy, ASU, UL
Men's bottom three indoor track FIU, UNT, UALR (second in cross country)

Women's first second and third in cross country WKU, UNT, USA
Women's first second and third in indoor track MT, UNT, FIU
Of the top six scorers only UNT placed top three in both.

Women's bottom three in cross country Troy, UL, ULM
Women's bottom three in indoor track ULM, UALR, Troy
Troy and ULM owned the bottom but UALR and UL both popped in and out, UALR placed fourth in cross country and 10th in indoor.

Any truth to the rumor that sand volleyball will be added to the Belt in the future ?

I hope so. I've never done play by play for beach volleyball.

But I'm willing to learn 04-cheers

I hope so. Relatively cheap to add, somewhat more popular, has a pro player market to advance to, nice for Title IX compliance.

I know UAB has added beach volleyball this year. Think about it, a sport that only needs 2 players.

FIU and FAU will have sand volleyball teams starting either 2012-13 or 2013-14. I know FIU has already signed some players.
