Two things - #1. Groce is a joke. #2. We hardly let off the gas. OU choked the life out of us and we were lucky to win as we couldn't score the last 10 min of the game.

Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. THEY FRIGGIN RESPONDED TONIGHT. As a fan what more can you ask for??????? Ohio U. was 22 and 6 (or whatever) and Kent State beat them, earned a bye to the quarters. Beyond this, who knows. GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUT OF HERE and jump on the bandwagon for a week or so! Its fun stuff! And screw OU while we are at it!

We did respond. By playing 20 min of basketball. Thank goodness it was the first 20. If you want to be blind to that 2nd half, that is on you. I am thrilled with the outcome and the bye. Doesn't mean I have to approve of everything you see. BTW, next to Akron, I hate OU more than anyone.

Just looked and we had exactly 1 made basket the last 12 minutes of the game. The Evans dunk. Make 1 FG the last 12 minutes of a game and you are lucky to win. I don't care who you are.

Correct, but this time they did play team defence and snuck away with the W. This was a much better effort than the last 2 games from a flawed team.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
I'm with you Danny, we couldn't do anything with OU's D in the last 12 minutes. Couple that with a few bone headed plays late and we were lucky to get the W. OU simply wasn't making shots but that's what their team is. When they're on from deep they can be unbeatable. When they have an average or below average outside shooting game they look remarkably unspectacular. I'll take it though, we finally played a game that resembled Kent St. basketball tonight so I'm satisfied for the moment.

What really bothered me about the game was as soon as Groce got the Tech OU got every questionable call for the next several minutes. It bothers me because that validates his pouting and childish behavior. I thought we got the benefit of the doubt on several calls in the first half before the tech but as an official you can't let a coach having anger seizuers on the floor affect how you call the game. Also, can anyone tell me what the heck that tech on Porrini was about?

Groce is a girl. OU should be embarrassed. Linder said Porrini "said something" so it was officially called a "taunting" technical.

I have often wondered why Groce isn't given a cup and a some old dirty rags to wear during games as he is perhpas the biggest beggar in the Mid American Conference.

But JSF, I am shocked. I would figure that instead of complaining about officials you would attempt to justify Ohio's offense. An offense that had no answer for the defensive clinic that Kent State put on during the first 20 minutes of basketball tonight.

Sorry, I didn't mean for that to come as ref complaining. I just couldn't figure out what they were doing out there. I thought Porrini's T was weak and Keely should have gotten one. They were just incredibly inconsistent, though they played no role in the outcome.

Kent was the better team tonight and deserved to win, period, ignore Danny's whining. I think OU came out a little tight, Kent some shots early and was able to relax while OU couldn't respond until it was too late.

Where did I say KSU wasn't the better team tonight? Or that we didn't deserve to win? I think my statement was that we were lucky to win because we couldn't make a basket the last 12 minutes of the game. If you disagree with that FACT, speak up and show your ignorance. Otherwise, I hope you are enjoying your ride back to Athens with the loss in your back pocket.

Luck is a matter of fact? How novel.

At no point in the second half did I think Ohio would win. Kent wasn't lucky. Sure, they didn't score field goals, but 24-5 runs tend to offset that. And you're ignoring the foul shots that helped put the game away.

Otherwise, continue your long streak of being unable to resist smack talk and puffing your chest.

Luck wasn't the matter of fact. The statistic I cited was the fact. Also, I am actually not ignoring the foul shots that helped put the game away. That is indeed what put the game away, as we were unable to make a basket for the last 12 minutes (sans the Evans dunk). You come on our board and you should be able to handle the smack talk. That's life in the fast lane.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
I will say it again, in a different way, and hopefully I can sway some opinions. I am happy as hell that we won, secured a bye, and handed an arrogant OU team (and coach) a loss. If we play a 40 minute game, we will dismantle any MAC team on any night. The problem is, we haven't put 40 minutes together in a long time. Tonight was a great first half and a lousy last 12 minutes that almost cost us the game. OU was pretty bad tonight, (21 turnovers, a lot of missed bunnies) yet they made it a 3 point game with more than a minute left in the game. How bad does that mean we played to blow a 16 point lead in the last 12 minutes?

I am hoping Friday night is the night. I will take a 1 point win on a 90 foot three pointer at the buzzer. But I would love to see the 40 minute game where we kick the crap out of Akron. Tighten some things up and it's possible. Nothing would make me happier than denying those idiots an outright MAC title.

"Life in the fast lane." Wow. OK. If that means not being able to see past where a person went to school and talking to them like a normal person, I'll stay in the slow lane, thanks.

Also, I love the fact you're getting worked up over me saying Kent wasn't lucky. You just can't help yourself, can you?

Shall I direct you to boards where smack talk is truly smack talk? This is mild mannered bantering. Come on JSF, what else you got? 05-stirthepot

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
I have to agree with Danny on this one. Kent had a 22-3 spurt in the first half and after that they were outscored by 12 (a 23 minute period). I saw a lot of the same issues. When did Greene decide to turn the ball over so many times? Blown fast breaks. Cooper going to the basket at will (only he knows why he did not do it more often). Nothing I saw changed my opinion that we are a slightly above average team. The type of team that usually wins at home but can only beat the worse teams on the road. It is what it is by this time in the season.

The starting line-up was interesting but not very good. With Jackson, Gaines and Manns out there at the same time we had no offense. Guyton saved that from being a disaster by making 3 long threes. We did play some good gambling type defense but if the refs would have called the game more tightly (which they usually do) a lot of those steals and deflections would have been fouls. I really saw nothing that different tonight. One of our better games but the same flaws were there. Heck if Ohio would have just kept 30 on the bench they probably would have won. That guy played one of the worst games I ever saw for a MAC starter.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
The mentioned last 10 minutes of the game, where we "let off the gas," I saw great defense on our part, quickly followed by sloppy passes and weak ball handling. Our defense kept us in it, which is Kent's M.O. But we have got to take better care of the ball. Remember, that was a 16 point lead and I would hate to see Akron do that second half thing with their backup players they did against us earlier.
We just need to do what the last 2 MAC Champions have done and step it up at the right time of the year. The last 2 champions where not the best team during the regular season, IMO. There might be an OU fan that disagrees here.

Probably not. Them entering the MAC tourney as the 9 seed that year pretty much says all it needs to about who they were that year. Anyone can get hot.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio U.
Kent can play the best 10-15 of any team in the MAC and when they go on runs look out. But (and it's a huge but) over a 3 day tourney on a neutral court we dont have the offensive weapons, basketball IQ, or MATURITY to play the necessary 120 minutes of quality basketball that will be necessary to move one.

We have a mindset of lets get a lead, then lets all chuck 3's or try alley oops and all "get" our own and then if things get tough we will try to turn it on and play KSU ball. Right now we get nothing in the half court sets except 3's or one on one. We have no offensive flow because Greene has a serious case of butter fingers or turnoveritis and when does catch it teams have figured out you double him and he's not tall enough or quick enough to pass out of it and we aren't smart enough to do anything but stand by the 3 pt line rather than cut to the hole.

Nice W that prevents us from playing 5 games but we still have serious flaws.

And for those of you that hate OU now just wait till next year when they lose no one!!!
