Hate I missed it
I enjoyed the regional tournament, but I would have loved to see the game.
By the way, college coaches need to watch both of the finalists on the girls side - Mountainburg and Bigelow. They have some talent. Mountainburg has a point guard who can flat out play.

Boy we could use one of those that can play. Taylor was only credited with four TO's last night, but I thought she had most of the Trojan TO's. Boy she makes some bad passes.

She's playing out of position. Give her credit. She's doing what the coaches need this year. Hopefully she can move to another position next year that's more suitable to her talents. Plus she'll be more experienced and battle tested next year, no matter where she plays.

That may be true, but we knew we were losing a great point guard and we should have had one recruited that was ready to play.

They had two, neither of whom have panned out. Some of that was due to injuries. And sometimes you just miss on kids. I've heard that the young lady from Duncanville, Texas is a really good point guard, similar to Asriel, so they're obviously going to be counting some on her next year, but being a Freshman it will take a little while for her to become acclimated into Coach Foley's system.

"I've heard" that most of the players UALR has signed over the years "is really good." We've had more duds than good ones over the years. I realize that you miss on some, but I think our program has missed more than we've hit.

We must hit on a pretty good percentage. Five straight division championships and several post season trips. Maybe a chance again this year. I don't know how Coach Foley does it, but somehow he turns negatives into positives. Plus it doesn't hurt when you get a Taylor Gault to go along with whatever else you have.

Wasn't speaking about the women, but mostly about the men's recruits over the past years. Although Foley is without a point guard this year. He's done a good job recruiting since he got his feet on the ground.

What position do you want Gault to play? She plays 2 unless Ford is on the bench, then she plays point. Ford averages 32 minutes a game, all at point. Gault averages 31 minutes a game. We lost three very good senior starters in Rolf, Butler, and Reed and the girls still won the west. That is pretty good recruiting considering this was a reloading year.

Gault is playing where she needs to play, the 2. My point is that we don't have a competent point guard that can do the job. That goes back to recruiting, and we don't have one that is competent. She does other things well, she just isn't a point guard. She plays hard. That's my opinion. I tell it like I see it, and that's just the way I see it. You always need more than one point guard on a team. As I said, the bottom line is, we simply don't have one.

One of the coaches told me that Gault can play the point, but they want her to be able to move without the ball and get open. But you're right, and coaches are definitely aware that we don't have a true point guard right now. The ones they signed haven't worked out yet, but I'm led to believe the kid they recruited for next year is the real deal. We'll see.

However there are two types of point guards. Those who are scoring point guards, and passing point guards. Unless you've got big scorers inside, which hasn't been the case with our men's program, a scoring point guard is a must. One the women's side, when Marian is really playing, they can get by without the point guard scoring a lot of points, because Marian can usually score pretty well inside and Taylor Gault can get inside the paint and score also.
