RE: New Column: Yancy's Legacy
Yancy has what it takes to at least make an NBA roster. Its really up to him, which he has acknowledged himself.

Right now, he's playing great. With him only being 21, he's going to get bigger, stronger. His skills in the post, are going to improve, as he's getting more comfortable. I think his mid range game will become more consistent and so too, his free throw shooting. He's got much too pretty a shot, to stay around 60%.
I think he'll thrive, if he chooses to continue on into the pros. That's his choice though.
Detroit Basketball
The Pistons win the lottery...select Anthony Davis with the 1st overall pick and Yancy Gates with an early second round guaranteed pick.

gates always seems to make some funky shots. i think that is his signature move, the funky. he's so unorthodox. then again, our entire team is. like a band of traveling gypsies. we might bore you on occasion, but we will intermittently entertain. keep you glued to your seats... for a fantastic finish!

Leonta Vaughn??? Adam Hrycaniuk???

i was going to mention deonta, but with him, i think it was mostly bitching. we weren't going anywhere, but i still give deonta props. he felt the burden was his to carry. he wasn't a bad player. but with yancy, it's mick's first coup. the hometown hero out to save the program and criticized because we thought he could lead us to a promised land of sorts. ok, maybe i'm being a bit dramatic. but certainly adam h isn't worthy of this conversation. he was a euro juco who sat out one year for us and adjusted to big time athletics for the first time in his life. if we had him for two years, sh!t, he still posted decent numbers.

RE: New Column: Yancy's Legacy
He pwned the best bigs in this league.
Fab Melo, Andre Drummond+Oriakhai, Henry Sims.
My thing, with the Fortson comparison, dude played against 6-6, 6-7 bigs in C-USA that couldn't hold a candle to todays bigs. These guys are freaks. They're athletic, skilled and massive. Eric Hicks was a hard worker, but Gates is more of a normal big. That will be to his advantage. Fortson was traded around the NBA, as the new bigs were a completely different mold than him, could hit jump shots and do more. He became undesirable. Hicks was just too short. Maxiell, is just tall enough and does enough things to stay on a roster. He's had some good moments.

In fact, he's had some good games as of late, I think.

RE: New Column: Yancy's Legacy
I have been very vocal about Yancy's attitude and how I feel about it. I did mention after the G'Town game that he has a golden opportunity to change his image completely. If this play continues no one will care about the laziness that plagued most of his career. He is what he is, but when he plays with purpose he is damn near impossible to keep off the boards and can change the game on the offensive end. Believe me I am trying to focus on the positives as much as I possibly can right now, but when I give it too much thought I begin to wonder what could have been had he always played with this type of fire.
