Not necessarily...When I was in college I could get 225 17 times, but could only max 310. I do find it ridiculous that I was just an average college kid, weighed 180, and after 2 months of lifting could get it 17 times...and these guys can't come close.
The numbers i'm talking about are based on 1rep calculators that you can find online.
YOu were doing 17 reps...but they might have been **** reps for all I know... :)

Right.
5 reps equals an additional (35 pounds beyond max)
10 reps equals an additional (60 pounds beyond max)
I would say 17 reps putting your max 85 pounds is about right because there is a declining value of each additional repetition.
I wouldn't put you necessarily in the average category benching 310 weighing 180, probably the athletic category would be fair. That is still nothing compared to what a lot of common gym rats can bench as they get into the 400-500 range.
