NIU QB Chandler Harnish eager to prove his critics wrong

Most of Chandler Harnish's strengths don't show up on film. The former Northern Illinois quarterback is scrappy, smart ... articulate, confident, athletic, battle-tested -- a competitor with ''grit, tenacity and leadership traits,'' according Pro Football Weekly's Draft Guide...

I think I read in today's paper that the quarterbacks will be featured on Sunday at the combine. I may just set the DVR and let it record all day and then scan for Chandler.

I really hope he does well.

That's what I plan to do.

QBs like Harnish don't come around that often in DeKalb and for that matter anywhere. The guy was a true leader on and off the field and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch him play.

I hope that he is drafted by a team that can devleop him and use him in the future. It would be nice to see him have an opportunity to live his dream.

He's a smaller Harnish, Persa being only 5'11" will likely be playing in Canada. He might get on a roster as a FA. It was great being able to enjoy 2 of the best QB's in the nation in our own backyard for 4 years. He did lead the nation in completion % the last 2 years, a feat that will be tough to match.

It would be a great game, but unless NU is willing to give us at least one game in DeKalb, forget it. I think Jeff Compher would probably accept a 2 for 1, but I doubt if Phillips will consider even that.

I think our program is established enough that we don't have to obsess about why Northwestern won't play us. Screw 'em.

They have 1-2 OOC away games a year why would they have to give up a home game?

Obsess no but it would be a great rivalry game for both programs that would be great for the fans.


How are we established...we will be hosting the first AQ team at HS in 9 years?

Even if we did a 2-1 we'd have to make sure our home game would come first. Or have a big buyout amount. So NU doesn't do the usual cancellation after their home game is played.

I think our only realistic chance to play them is at Wrigley.

I don't even think they would want to play us at their field again.

Not sure I understand your question about NU giving up a home game. I was merely making the point that any series with Northwestern should be a 1 for 1 or, at worst, a 2 for 1.

We're established now because we have a national presence due to the ESPN games, we've won a MAC Championship and won bowl games the last two years. Northwestern's last bowl win? 1949.
