I mean, Montgomery only attended Michigan State and was an assistant there for 10 years. Why would he still want to follow them?

Oh yeah, that's right, we only want loyalty when it comes to people staying loyal to NIU. That's right. My bad.

RE: Am I Overreacting?
oh yeah, don't be loyal to a team you PLAYED for....wow some guys will look to find fault in everything. The guy lives and dies with NIU basketball so if revellling in some MSU success keeps him from going insane that is fine by me...How many TV's does Fatty's have? You mean EVERY effin TV has to be tuned to the same channel? wow....

Maybe if some of you folks had degrees from other schools you could relate to the shared loyalties. I have no doubt, if NIU basketball plays MSU, who MM would be pulling for.

Oh, and in response to the original query: YES you are overreacting.

Fatty's is an NIU bar...if he wanted to keep track of the MSU game he could check his phone for score updates. Or go home and watch the game on his personal TV.

Someone gets it.

I dont blame him for supporting MSU, but its something that is better done privately. It rubs me the wrong way and it opens up questions on his commitment to where is at now. Questions that may have no validity at all, but he opens himself up to it.

If it's just a tweet I have no problem with it. Very understandable, IMO. As long as NIU comes first....

Wayyy overreacting. I bet almost everyone on this board has another college team they like to watch/cheer for that likes sports. I know I do.

RE: Am I Overreacting?
This is overreacting. They are not a rival, we don't play them in any important sport. He tweeted about NIU Football ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!!!!! The man is loyal to NIU! I would kind of be pissed if he didn't care about the place he attended college and played. When an NIU game is on at Fatty's it isn't always the only game on, maybe he wanted the Illinois game changed to MSU. You guys are overreacting. Wow.

RE: Am I Overreacting?
Phil Burnett used to tweet about and cheer for NIU when he was coaching at Ball State. Same conference, same division, and trophy rivals. Nothing wrong with supporting a few other teams, especially where there are still roots and players you recruited there. If we were playing MSU and he tweeted that he was upset about them losing to us, then you would have a good reason to be angry.

good point....and lest people forget, 11 months ago Monty was coaching the MSU kids, many of whom he recruited...he is supposed to sever all ties--what is this, the mafia: You are dead to me?

And again, he went there, played there, and coach there for 10 years. This is beyond overreaction.

Complete overreaction. That's his school, and players he coached, and guys he coached with. Loyalty is a good trait to have.

RE: Am I Overreacting?
I think that this is very unprofessional and will kill Monty's career if he keeps this up. If you have other loyalties you should keep them private. NIU should not tolerate this and no other major BCS program would. Could you imagine Urban Meyer going to an Ohio State Bar and demanding that they change the channel from a Buckeye's basketball game to a University of Cincinnati basketball game? Regardless that he is a loyal Cincinnati alumnus and played football there, he would be toast!
