What would the loss of Temple do to FB schedules?
I believe the MAC, and other conferences, wanted to release 2012 football schedules soon.

and, of course, the CRAZINESS in college football is doing nothing but making football scheduling less predictable than the stock market.

Coming SO LATE this is a total mess.

And the MAC is the INNOCENT victim of all of this unmitigated craziness.

The MAC is a "model conference" which has taken schools like NIU, UB, Marshall, UCF, Temple and UMass looking for a FBS home and given them a home without poaching from another conference.

Two of these things are not like the others.....

Huh? You must have missed the part where UMass is scheduled in the East and BG moves to the West. It's 8+4 still, of course, but now all of the 8 games Temple would have played have to be adjusted elsewhere. It's unbalanced the conference schedule. Taking eight games OUT of the master schedule is a major effect.

Well Temples two crossover games get assigned to teams from the East leaving four games at issue...

I assume for '12 (and beyond?) the West will have 7 teams and the East 6.

Yep, there are now 4 home games and 4 road games which need to be redone.

E.g. EMU @ Temple. MAC will need to find a MAC East team which doesn't have a game scheduled at day.

But the idea of balanced scheduling is that every team can play in conference every Saturday so no teams are scheduled to be idle.

You have the same problem that has been in the East shifting to the West: you will have West teams who won't play each other. That's the reality of the 7/6 divisions. Damn those prime numbers!

Thanks again Temple, after years of a one-sided deal screwing up our scheduling you decide to take up the Big East on the offer that was never coming unless they were totallyn desperate and now you leave us unbalanced on your way out.

Again, huh? What do unbalanced or balanced divisions have to do with those things? Can you show me how the fact that the divisions were unbalanced directly improved those? Of course not. We didn't get more bowl bids because the bowls like our having unbalanced divisions. The TV money was split more ways and attendance has been flat or decreasing conference wide. You really think you can make a case that donations have increased because we had unbalanced scheduling? These are unconnected events.

One thing is clear, though: with unbalanced divisions, teams in one division don't all play each other. You can have (and we have had) situations where teams competing for the div. title and the MACC bid (hence guaranteed bowl bid) played distinctly different schedules within the division. Big advantage to play the 6th and 7th place teams and avoid one or two of the better teams.

I always tought ESPN was behind Temple to the MAC
And ESPN compesated the MAC.
How was MAC compesated, I don't Know. I could be wrong about the whole thing
BTW penelity money for leaving early is always tied to TV contract
if temple brought no tv money in, no harm no foul.

If I'm not mistaken, the MAC's tv deal did not change when Temple joined the MAC. I don't believe that ESPN was behind Temple to the MAC at all.

I was just told by NIU's AAD...

"The conference office is still telling us that we will have our full schedule the first week in March."

No, penalty money is because Temple will be breaking a contract.
