I don't think anyone's arguing that Means lived all the way up to his enormous potential, but he was a solid contributor and hardly the biggest bust of all time (especially considering the turmoil that surrounded him for the better part of his college career).

I don't think he will go down as one of the Tigers most memorable linemen. If he had lived up to his high school hype he would have been 2nd team All-American not 2nd team C-USA and yes it was Alabama that he went to and couldn't cut the mustard down there. I don't think he started at the Uof M until his senior year.

No offense, but it sounds like you are not well informed. Means was a starter from the first time he was here. He deserves a lot of credit for putting up with all of the turmoil he had to endure through no fault of his own.

Means required a double team every time he was on the field which left a linebacker free to make the play. Means was a good college player and helped our defense alot during his time here.

Means played in rotation as a defensive lineman for Bama as a true freshman. As far as not cutting the mustard at Bama, someone should check the facts instead of spouting off crap. I don't think anyone who lined up across from him would call him a dud.

Maybe one of you old timers will remember, but there was a 5* type kid out of Louisiana that signed with Memphis, probably in the late 70s or early 80s? Don't remember his name & not sure he stayed long but he was supposed be the best running back in the nation as I recall. Had grade problems but somehow got in school. Any one remember this kid?

deangelo wasnt that highly rated out of high school and didnt draw a lot of attention from the big schools. he was a big get for us and things worked out well for him.

Actually at one time DeAngelo was rated a 5* and so was Greg Hinds, but both dropped down to 4*. DeAngelo dropped to a 3*, but raised back up to a 4.

It is also crap to say that Crawford was a bust. It was only because of injury that he didn't go down as one of the Tiger greats!! He was a major reason for the Florida win, plus having E. Smith get hurt in the game helped. He once said that was the most physical game he played in college!!!

I remember DeAngelo being a four-star and top 15 all-purpose back the whole time. I think Lorenzo Booker was #1 in that category that year?

I attended that game in Gainesville. Memphis dominated. Listening to the callers to local talk shows after the game were consistent in their praise for the Tigers & very frustrated that Memphis seemed to have better athletes at every position, better speed, more physical. It was great day to be a Tiger fan!

the same thing our fans have been saying the last few years . . .

It's amazing what winning can do. All those complaints go away.
