RE: Temple to Big East
This merger is becoming more and more attractive. Big East football will be dead soon enough.

Time will tell, but I concur, especially when 'the cartel' kicks them to the curb. The Big East is a dead man walkin' for the time being.

I have a suspicion that Cincy is now trying to figure out how to get out of the league.
The Big East is the biggest Fuster Cluck you have ever seen in a conference.

Cincy and Rutgers are both looking around going "Wait a minute, we were supposed to go with Louisville!"
Its going to be interesting seeing how the BE flies apart.

There's that word again..."Alliance"...Has a nice ring to it...I hope whatever name they choose for the new conference, the word "Alliance" is part of it.

It would have been nice to have Temple in our new conference.

RE: Temple to Big East
We'll see what happens. I think everybody expects Louisville to leave for the Big XII, and my guess would be UConn and Rutgers will try their hardest to get into the ACC. But for now this is what it looks like:(and I may have left a team or two off, still trying to figure out what all movement has been made)
Louisville
UConn
Rutgers
Boise State
SDSU
Houston
SMU
UCF
Temple
USF
Memphis
Then for basketball only:
Providence
DePaul
Villanova
Georgetown
St. John's
Marquette
Notre Dame
Seton Hall
SMU, Boise, DePaul, and Rutgers are really the only awful basketball programs right now.(I know arguments could be made for USF, Seton Hall, Houston, Providence etc.; but these teams are better than the ones listed above) The basketball is a bit watered down though. The top tier basketball programs are: UConn, Louisville, Memphis, Marquette, Georgetown, SDSU, and 2 of those teams will bolt for the first offer. The football is so-so. Boise State is really good, but traveling across country over and over is probably going to hurt them. The 3 teams that left C-USA are decent, but they aren't like top programs in the other BCS conferences. The rest of the programs are just blah. I'm not sure what the hell the Big East was trying to do(they should have just went pure basketball because they haven't been relevant in football in years), but they failed miserably at trying to be a good football and basketball conference. If those 3 teams leave, this league is nothing.

RE: Temple to Big East
Here's the bad side of the "What if the BE blows up and a new league we might join forms from the remains" discussion. When the university presidents met and they were working on the Alliance, they put an exit clause with big sharp teeth in the contract to keep more raiders away.
We might find ourselves facing one helluva painful buyout to get to that new east coast league.
Just a thought.

Would we be better off joining the leftovers from that conference, or being where we are now though? I'm not so sure we aren't in the better place.

There's some question as to whether Boise and SDSU will actually go the BE. If they remain with the alliance, the alliance will be very strong and maybe get a better TV deal than the BE.

Only on message boards.
At this point, that's the way it would seem. But when you think about it, it's not that far fetched.
If the TV deal is comparable (or even better) with the alliance, then Boise and SDSU could maintain current rivalries, not have to move other sports, and be in potentially just as strong of a football conference as the BE... especially if Louisville leaves as it appears is likely.
The BCS structure as it stands very likely will not exist as it currently does. It will either be gone altogether or the BE will likely not keep their AQ bid.
