I expect a good crowd for this game. It'll should be exciting with some good energy.

I hope we can take UAB off the schedule and start a in state rivalry with you guys instead. The UAB game just does not have the spark to be considered a rivalry.

End the season with this game with the conference on the line and the rivalry will be born.

I would enjoy this idea.

It just feels so lonely ending the year playing someone like ASU (they beat us big time lmao) but it's so unrivalish to have games like that last. I want to play the same team at the end of every season

UAb has tried their best to not play you guys, I think you guys had to fight to get them to agree to the series you currently have going. Our game definitely needs to be played on rivalry week. Let's get it started right. We are instate, conference rivals, this game will get some attention from both fanbases.

UAB was in the driver seat at that time because we were new to FBS and they didn't have to fly across two states to get to every game. Not playing Troy will hurt them big time because they have absolutely no hint of a rival in the alliance.

I don't like the idea of a nine game conference schedule and having to play UAB every year we get two free games a year.

Drop 'em. You don't need them anymore. Besides, you would rather have a rivalry with a team that hasn't done anything instead of a team that has failed at everything.

Did that come out right??? 01-wingedeagle

That would force the bigger schools to do more away games and may result in better non conference games throughout college football because some schools will not want to travel to some smaller schools. But should result in bringing in some of the bigger schools.

That would never happen. The NCAA can't tell 100,000 crowds at Michigan or Tennessee or schools like that to give up the home attendance and schedule a game at 30,000 seat stAte or UL. If you couldn't require them to you couldn't Tulane or Memphis.

RE: Why the Belt Needs to Sign a Mid-Week TV Deal with ESPN
The only way I'd be in favor is if this is strictly a Thursday night, only on ESPN (not the deuce) deal. Those stupid interactive Tuesday games on ESPN2 were awful. Like Troy @ FIU last year, and Troy @ Middle Tennessee the year before. And various other SBC games that have been featured. Sure, I love being able to tune in and watch our SBC brethren play on national TV, but the way the Big East built up their brand before going all kamikaze on themselves when schools started jumping ship was that they were the main attraction on Thursday nights. I think they even had some Friday night games last year as well. But they were on the main channel on Thursdays for years. I don't think many of us would have a problem with each school having 1 Thursday night game a year. It is the Tuesday nights that are awful.

What was so awful about Troy vs FIU last year besides Troy? The FIU fans didn't get up for it because we had a losing record but the game itself wasn't that bad. I remember watching until until the last second.

Do the FIU fans get up for anything? they have terrible...terrible attendance and schedualing a team from so far away that only 100 fans from the visiting team shows up is not a way to get good crowds.

For the SBC to have successful midweek games the games need to be schedualed for the most part between teams that are "rivals" or at least other fans can travel to.

Having a MTSU/WKU, TROY/USA, FAU/FIU, ULL/ULM on a thursday night would be a lot more successful than TROY/FIU on a tuesday night. Heck, TROY/FIU on a thursday probably would have been a lot better.

I can see myself taking a long weekend and flying down to miami and enjoying my time there for a thursday night game... I didn't even consider it last year for the tuesday night game.

That we couldn't easily go to the game without taking two full days off of work. My dad and I flew down to Ft Lauderdale for the FAU game two years ago and had a blast over the weekend. I watched it all as well. Just isn't the same as a weekend, or even a Thursday night when you've only got one more day at work before the weekend.

This has already been done, at least from MT's standpoint. I know MT/Troy was on Tuesday/Thursday for 3- 4 years straight, and MT/WKU was on Thursday night last year. ESPN makes the calls.

I think your over stating the attendance factor vs the media factor. Most schools don't really make much of students coming to games because if it's not teams like Alabama the tickets are either really cheap or free.

When you have 1 million people watching Troy vs FIU with 10k attendance it's a whole lot more than a weekend Troy vs UAB with 18k attendance and on the Sun Belt network with 10k people watching if that.

People want rivalry games to be on weekends at the end of the season not in the middle of the week in October. And ESPN WILL NOT TELEVISE any Sun Belt rivalry games at the end of the year because you have the UCLA vs USC's of the world playing their games at the end of the year.

we have GOT to get our product out there guys. don't be so selfish as to ignore the benfits of this because you want the traditional gameday experience every home game. I love Troy in the fall, but I'd gladly give it up for two Troy games on ESPN national coverage. I still get to see my team, just from the couch...AND I share that game with America.

The fact that there is actually some truth to this is what is killing college football long term. College football is about showing up on Saturdays, tailgating with your friends and family, and cheering your team on. I personally would not gladly give up 2 home ECU games to sell our souls to ESPN for a midweek game. I don't think these games always give a program positive exposure. Sure if you sell it out and have a great atmosphere and have a good team it's great, but if you have 5k fans in the stands and are just putting a mediocre product on the field the majority of people who watch just kinda chuckle and think it's small time football. Boise gained from it, but they were putting a nationally ranked team on the field in front of a sold out crowd. If you're putting a 4-4 team in front of an empty stadium that's not improving a schools image.

+1. And you hurt your fanbase as there are probably plenty of season-ticket holders that can't make the midweek games. I think it hurts when you get the fans out of the rhythm of going to Saturday games. Wouldn't be bad if it was just 1 game, but I don't think that would happen with ESPN. You'd probably get signed on for a minimum of 2 or maybe even 3. NIU had 4 midweek games, 2 of which were at home. And that definitely hurt attendance. Yes, we got good exposure in our game against Toledo. Hard to say what the impact is long-term though.

When I lived in Ozark, yes I lived in Ozark, not from Ozark though, anywho, when I lived there, I had out of town season ticket holders giving me their tickets to midweek games for Troy. They couldn't come in midweek. This was a few years ago, and I enjoyed the game, but that is a problem with midweek games.

RE: Why the Belt Needs to Sign a Mid-Week TV Deal with ESPN
I'm a long time season ticket holder (I have great seats) and I am a strong advocate for this. I say that to emphasize that I'm not someone who watches the bulk of Troy's games on TV. I spend my hard earned money on expensive seats every year, and I am willing to give up attending a home game each season to see the Conference secure a weekly mid-week ESPN game.

When you consider that that puts a Sun Belt game on every sports bar and football fans' TV across the country every week, it's worth it. the exposure would be great! the MAC has really improved their brand image by doing this, we need to catch up.
