Thanks to coalcountry52 from WVU's rivals board, who took the photo of the newspaper image...

The proposed construction site is the large circle on the left. The center circle is the Coliseum and basketball practice facility, and the circle at right is Milan Puskar Stadium...

RE: WVU/Construction of a new baseball field
Sounds like WVU will play its Big XII home baseball games in Charleston, Bluefield and Princeton till the new staduim is done. All three towns have minor league teams

http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/WVUSport...uild=cache

All sounds like WVUs new field will be modeled after Penn Sts new stadium

That would be beatiful if we could pull that off

All WVU needs to do is to find a short season minor league affiliate, like Penn State did...

That's some serious traveling for home games right there; especially Bluefield and Princeton.

Plan for WVU baseball stadium hits snag
Quote:West Virginia University's hope to build a Big 12-suitable baseball stadium using a tax-increment financing district came to an abrupt halt Tuesday evening when Commerce Department officials told lawmakers they hadn't received any of the necessary documents needed to proceed.

The bill creating the district was on Tuesday morning's Senate Government Organization Committee agenda. However, committee Chairman Herb Snyder decided not to bring the bill up for discussion.

When asked about the bill late Tuesday, Snyder said it is unlikely the bill will reappear in his committee this session.

RE: WVU/Construction of a new baseball field
That ended quickly.

The stadium in the plans looks pretty nice, which makes sense as they hope to share it with a minor league team like Penn State does. But you don't have to build something like that to have a Big 12 worthy field.

I would think that something like K-State's facility would be sufficient for WVU baseball. The stadium was originally built in 1961, but heavily renovated in 2002. The renovation cost was $3.1 million. Obviously would be more on a new site, but less than what WVU seems to be envisioning.

Either one of those would a nice addition to WVU facilities. Wife and I plan to take in WVU game at Oregon State 3/9/12 and Oklahoma & Oregon in twin bill 3/10/12 in Eugene. Even thou it's right up the road I have never seen OSU Goss field, but heard it is nice. It will be nice when they get their own home they can be proud of.

WVU Baseball Stadium Does Not Compare to Big 12 Brothers
Quote:One look at Hawley Field and it is easy to see that WVU does not have a state of the art baseball stadium. It has not needed one until now.

West Virginia University Athletic Director told WVi last week that he does not intend for any sport at WVU to "be a door mat." In other words, he does not plan to watch any WVU sports team to be satisfied with mediocrity.

Good info, and really backs up why WVU needs to get a new place (or significantly renovated place) to play.

Oklahoma's stadium is kind of a joke for a team with national titles and a decent number of CWS appearances. I guess they only care about football in Norman.

Right, PK park is shared with the Eugene Emeralds A team. I remember going to some games at their old stadium back in the early 70's when they were the AAA affiliate of the Phillies. PK along with Penn State's baseball field could be models to emulate for the new WVU field. Hope some of the decision makers make this road trip.

I hope they play some games in princeton next year. I can say I will be to every game as Ive wanted to watch college baseball for years but am only able to watch on tv as its almost a 5 hours drive to morgantown for me. Princeton would be great for any big 12 team as it has a very good stadium. Bluefield Ill go to too but stadium is nowhere near as nice.

Most of the games will probably be in Charleston, unless there's a scheduling conflict. The biggest alumni base is Charleston...
