Do you think it will be a basketball only school like Xavier?

I think both Toledo and Ohio would consider it. I love playing Ohio and well Tuck Foledo is just Tuck Foledo.

I don't think Ohio will consider moving to another conference. The OU administration is very comfortable in the MAC. The latest audited figures on the OU athletic budget (2009-2010) shows that their athletic budget was 81% subsidized by state money and student fees. With the budget cuts coming in higher education in Ohio, you must wonder how much longer the OU administration will be able to support their current athlectic expenditures.

The Alliance already looks like an epic fail to everyone outside of those involved with it. Adding or not adding Ohio won't make much of a difference.

You might guess who would win this if it becomes about TV Dollars

Cleveland is 50 miles from Akron though so counting it as a consolidated market is kind of a stretch.

That is like saying the University of Dayton carries the Cincinnati market....

Toledo has been the most successful MAC school over the last 15 years and that is something the alliance can run with. Toledo's record crowd is 37,000 and regularly can get in the upper 20's for big games. Their series with Marshall when they were in the league was a nasty one with 32-34k at either house when the two schools played.

Ive seen people try to say that NIU would bring the Chicago market. Dekalb is like an hour and a half outside of Chicago but whatever floats their boat I guess.

I agree..But See SMU, San Diego St. and Houston...Its about the Tv Dollar and if we can add the #17 TV Market they will do it..plus..New Stadium..Terry Bowden...They can play all of this

The Sweater Vest is there now too.

The Alliance will work and you will still be stuck in the MAC go away.

I'd assume all.

if that's the case, I'm DEFINITELY leaning Toledo.. Akron is arguably the WORST football team in the NCAA's at this level. So they wouldn't be even a consideration to me...

1. Toledo (all-sports) 2. Miami (OH). (probably my top pick if FB only) 3. Dayton (Basketball only )and then the rest.

Yes, Akron's a better basketball team.. but market wise, Akron is it's own "subdivision" of Cincinnati.. so that cancels out the Cleveland vs. Toledo arguement (as I see it.. don't shoot me, it's just an opinion!)

The Big East did take Memphis so bad decisions do happen.

I think this is most likely just going to be the oppisite of an epic fail. I think you are looking at what will soon be the 1st of the Super Conferences. Will there be bumps. Im sure there will be, this has never been attemped yet. But what works will be used over again when others try this. This is far from what the WAC 16 tried. And I think if the WAC 16 would have been 2 divisions of 8 schools it would have worked for years. But Quads of 4 was doomed to fail.

But anyway: [Image: macboard.png]

RE: Who do you think the 'mystery Ohio school' is?
Without regard to certain MAC fans opinions I'm inclined to think that Temple for FB only and Toledo plus Ohio for all sports will eventually happen. If we end up with 20 teams then a division of 5 containing Marshall, ECU, Temple, Toledo and Ohio would be pretty regional. Add ODU for the 6th if going to 24 later. The only reason either Ohio school would decline is if their leadership has no faith in their ability to rise to the occasion financially and they have no ambition to be in anything but a bus league. If that's the case then on to the next choice, probably UMass to team up with Temple.

Most of the MAC has been together since the mid 70s and some go back to the 50s. Here is a list of the MAC and the year they joined.

MAC East
Akron 1992
Bowling Green 1952
Buffalo 1999
Kent State 1951
Miami OH 1948
Ohio 1947
Temple 2007

MAC West
Ball State 1975
Central Michigan 1975
Eastern Michigan 1976
Northern Illinois 1997
Toledo Rockets 1952
Western Michigan 1948

There have been 6 members of the MAC that have been together since 1952, those being Ohio, Miami OH, Kent State, Bowling Green, WMU and Toledo.

Then in the mid 70s Ball State, CMU, EMU joined the MAC from the ranks of DII.

The next school wasn't added until Akron in 1992. NIU rejoined the MAC in 1997 with Marshall, they were in the MAC from 1973-1985 when they went indy.

Buffalo joined in 1999 and Temple in 2007.

What this all comes down to is most schools in the MAC have been together and have no other place to go. They all play in the shaddow of the B10 and even the students of MAC schools are watching Ohio State, Michigan on saturdays.

I think both Ohio and Toledo would consider moving to the alliance. In the end if either would leave is really up in the air.

How come Akron did not do something on their endzone of their new football stadium to make it look a little better than just a berm/grassy hill. Think it makes it look a little small time compared to the great looking sideline infrastructure? Not saying needed much but just loses a little something as you scan down the sides to that end.

Originally there were supposed to be towering brick dorms there behind the scoreboard, kind of like Camden Yards in Baltimore. The dorms ended up being built at another location. It does feel open at that end of the stadium. The designs called for it to be immediately expandable to 50,000 seats from the current 30,000. I guess that's where the expansion seats would go.

The grass hill looks nice when there's a cowd of students sitting there.

Based on what? Media who laugh at every move CONFS have made? They laughed at Nebraska leaving all their longtime rivalries to join the Big 10. They laughed at the Legends & Leaders names of the Big 10 divisions. They laughed at TCU hopping from conf to conf before landing in the Big 12. They laughed at WVU going to Big 12 and paying $20 mil plus. They laughed at the Big East having a team in California and the rest it added. They've laughed at CUSA & the MTNWAC West merging. This whole thing has been FUBAR, but after the dust settles you still will be looking at the schools in the CONFS, and CUSA kept the prime rib of their football teams and though we lost Memphis hoops, UNLV & New Mexico bring excellent hoops to be added. There is plenty to gain no matter what the talking heads in the media say while trying to get people to read their print.
