Per 700 WLW Butch Jones is to announce his new DC today. Anyone know who it is? I assumed John Jancek would just have Co removed from his title.

No clue. I assumed we'd hire a new Co-DC and Jancek would take over the play calling duties. Unless they are promoting someone from the current staff to fill the Co-DC role.

Crossing my fingers it's Jancek.

i think in an all access interview on gobearcats, CBJ said they were going internal on the hire.

that would be a slap in the face to Jancek, unless they made Coombs Co-Def Coord with him.

it only makes sense for Jancek to be the sole DC if it's an internal hire, like they had previously indicated. As the coaching roster reads, currently, we have two coaches for TEs (Elder/Johnson), no coaches for RBs, our co-defensive coordinator coaches LBs and is the recruiting coordinator to boot.

Jancek=Sole DC/recruiting coordinator
Elder=LB coach
Johnson=TE coach
TBD= RB coach

Elder seemed to be the point man for the rb's during signing day. I wonder if that could indicate he is taking over the position. I would bet Jancek gets the DC job and they hire a new defensive coach. BTW, anyone know what ever happened with Addae?

I had always thought Elder immediately took over the RB position as soon as Addae left.

Not listed like that on gobearcats but you are probably right since on a lot of the all access intvs he was talking about the RBs.

I just swore I read something somewhere that Elder moved to TE when Addae was brought in as RB coach. Could be wrong. Then he moved back when Addae left.

If I am Jones I have Jancek should take over play calling duties. I find a way to give Steve Stripling a raise. He is already associate head coach so I would give him the Co-Coordinator title, which amounts to a raise. And I don't let Coombs within 100 miles of play calling. Also because Jancek would take the DC role the recruiting coordinator title he holds has to go to someone else. I would give it to Mark Elder or T.J. Weist, both of whom have done a lot of leg work building Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami and Memphis into pipelines for UC

Who is the new assistant hire? Hopefully its an AA. They have none on the staff right now and it will really hurt them on the recruiting trail IMO.

Funny that WLW said days ago the announcement was coming... there must have been a hold up of some sort (negotiations? a coach getting released by his current school?)

That was 700 getting it wrong. The plan all along from UC was to announce late in the week.
