RE: Opening Weekend is upon us!
ASU is heading out to Beaumont for a 4 game Tourney. We play 2 games each against Stephen F Austin and Lamar. I believe UALR split with the LumberJacks last year.. Lamar of course a well known baseball program. This is like our gazilionth appearence in this tournament, and we've traditionally played well down there against teams not named Lamar.
We'll play this 4 game set and then play the following Tuesday at Ole Miss before our home opener the next day against Murray State which will open a 9 game homestand.
While Ole Miss is our only Big 6 Conference opponent this year (absolutely no one will play us), we play a ton of games against teams like Lamar and Stephen F Austin before conference play this year. Should be an interesting tuneup

I would love a 4 game sweep over the Chips. It'd be sweet revenge for that cold night in Mobile two years ago...

I was going to join GTT but there was a little bit of a civil war going on from what I saw so I thought I would wait until football season.

Dude, just join and make your opinions known. Not every poster is unrealistic, but there are a few that can't see past their opinion. Things should settle down after the spring is over and we have an idea of how the depth charts develop.

MT hosts Kansas, Evansville, and St. Louis this weekend.
I believe something like 18 out of our first 21 games are at home.
Damn weather has taken a turn for the worse, after being in the mid-50's to low 60's here recently.

Not Good at all......We all need to play a challenging schedule to keep our R.P.I up. You guys are killing us all with that kind of schedule.

Not really a lot of choices in the matter. We called several SEC and Big 12 schools and every single one of them said no. In order to play a schedule considered challenging by Belt standards we would have to play about 18 home games a year...counting conference.
As it is we play
Dayton
Northern Illinois
Austin Peay
Murray State
SIU-Edwardsville (2)
Missouri State (2)
Southeast Missouri (2)
Stephen F Austin (2)
Lamar (2)
Memphis (2)
Ole Miss (2)
Evansville (3)
South Dakota State (3)
So if the conference RPI stinks this year...blame us. Then go find upper level teams willing to play us. Sorry Guys.

RE: Opening Weekend is upon us!
If our instate SEC school would play us things would admittedly become a lot easier.
We did set up a nice deal this year where us and UALR are combining to play the other 2 D1 baseball programs that acknowledge our existance in a doubleheader at Dickey Stephens Park, home of the Angels AA affiliate Arkansas Travelers, in Little Rock.
Id love it if UALR would move our road series with them out there...Many ASU fans have grown tired of risking our lives traveling out to Gary Hogan... Thats like Bloods territory yo...

If whoever is scheduling your games can't do better than that, then you need someone who can. All the rest of us do have success scheduling better competition, so that is no excuse. Don't you realize, that even if your team wins 40 games, they will not get an NCAA invitation due to poor RPI ? That strategy only gives you one shot, and that is winning the SBC Tournament. We, on the otherhand have been invited to NCAA regionals as an "At Large" more times than as a Conf. Champion. This is the kind of crap that ruins a conference RPI. Maybe yall should consider
going to Div 2.

RE: Opening Weekend is upon us!
Indeed it does ruin things for everyone else when teams schedule horribly because it really hurts the teams that are in the top of the Belt also. So teams counting on conference wins for RPI won't get very much.
I wouldn't say go to D2 as much as I say someone else should be on the scheduling job. I'm just glad with four SEC games, five conference USA games, and some decent local teams like Samford. Playing Alabama St and Alabama A&M will hurt us though. I'm not sure why we just don't make games like those away games so we can get road wins instead of playing the 5-7th pitcher at home and winning.
