Just last night I read that Houston was seen the previous two days at her hotel stinking drunk - and that one of the prescription medications she was taking was Xanax.

Ctip, Bingo! Whitney Houston was wonderfully talented. But, this country is honoring the wrong people. People like Michael Murphy are even more rare than talented singers -- and, in my eyes, more valuable.

Slightly off topic -- maybe the new ship should have been named after Lt. Murphy??????????

That's pretty silly and caters to people who don't think for themselves IMO.

1. To act as though she is the first celebrity to die and the media make a fuss over is insane. that's been the rule for a long time.

2. It goes both ways, LT. Murphy could have a drug problem or personal issues and deal with them in private. I'm sure demi moore is loving the press she's gotten lately.

3. Chris, do you realized you were the one who posted the story of whitney's passing?

I certainly realize that i posted of her passing. And it was simply that, her passing. It was not a deification. YOU, are making too big a thing of trying to make other people believe that there was no problem, and they should be ashamed of themselves for thinking there was. BS.

As Americans as a whole, we make too much of the passing of a person who had a gift for entertainment, and not enough of the passing of people who have given their lives for this country.

Trying to put it in perspective. Or as my son says, just keeping it real.

Never have I said there was never a problem. I took issue with the timing and the accuracy of the negative comments. I would do that for anyone.

Keeping it real as your son would say.

I love G but we had our run ins. After his passing If someone posted some negative false things about him, would that bother you?

There was a poster who had a signature with half dressed women posting in G's thread and it was removed. I'm glad someone got to it before i saw it. I just think there's a time and place.

Yeah, this thread is over the top now, but you know me.

Unfortunately, there were MANY customers before Whitney, and there will be more than enough afterward. Illegal drugs will continue to be one of the few growth industries remaining.

Two of whitney"s most famous quotes were "crack is wack", and "crack is cheap". She was never a crack user. Some of you base your opinion of her off of mad tv skits and the like.

The cause of her death seems to be leaning toward prescription drugs, which seems to be more deadly as of late to celebs then the illegal drugs. you see adults, children, and celebrities popping these xanex, ambiens, etc on tv without the stigma of being called a drug addict.

If people want to call whitney a drug addict, fine. She was. But recently it seemed as though her "pusher" was a doctor--not a crack dealer. That should be the story but it may hit a little too close to home.

I guess my point was she was hardly the only crack user, particularly in the entertainment industry. But, if she wasn't even one, then it further backs my reply to Sub...

Drug abuse is a sickness and it doesn't make them a bad person. Pretty sure I can say without fear of contradiction that whitney has done more for others then you folks who are attacking her combined. You'd think she'd blew up a daycare center the way some of you are talking.

I remember watching Nixon's funeral on tv. at the time the only thing i knew about him was watergate and everyone makes jokes about him. During the service they only spoke of the good things, that's the way it should be. What's lower then kicking a dead person?

Hop off your high horse for 5 minutes and think about all the people you like, be it an actor, musician, or athlete and i'll bet some of them are using drugs or have broken a law or two.

You don't have to shed a tear or anything but to some she was a mother, a daughter, a friend. People who didn't need the tabloids to form their opinion of her. She'll have more people at her funeral then you'll have at yours. So I'll wish her family peace and be grateful i have another day on this earth. I'm getting to an age when people around my age and some people who are younger then me are dying.
It's kinda scary.

Well said.

X3...

I prefer not to participate in neither her denigration (i.e. the unsympathetic "crackhead" posts) nor her canonization (CNN, etc...). I'm all for simply letting her rest.

Whitney Houston's cause of death has been revealed.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner, the pop star died of drowning, and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.

The coroner called the manner of Houston's death an accident, with no trauma or foul play suspected. Toxicology tests revealed that "cocaine and metabolites were identified and were contributory to the death." According to the coroner, "marijuana, alprazolam (Xanax), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) were identified but did not contribute to the death."
