Better stadium and facilities, bigger budget and better donation giving. I know a lot of folks are hot on LaTech but they dont have the upside of FAU/UTSA/UNT/GSU etc. What is their basketball like? Baseball? Other Olympic sports? Last MBB tourney 1991? Last Baseball tourney 1987? This is where you cant hide a small budget.
Agree completely . . La Tech has nothing to offer . . I do not care what conference they are in as long as it is not the same conference as stAte . . just my personal opinion.
Go stAte . . Go SBC !!

Sun Belt Confernce Football
West
New Mexico State
UNT
TX State
UTSA
ASU
La Tech
ULM
ULL
East
USA
Troy
MTSU
WKU
Georgia State
FAU
FIU (App State)
UNC Charlotte
Sun Belt Conference Basketball
West
Denver
New Mexico State
UNT
ASU
ULM
ULL
La Tech
Tx State
UTSA
East
UALR
USA
Troy
MTSU
WKU
FAU
Ga State
FIU (App State)
UNC Charlotte
In football, the Conf. Championship will be played at the home stadium of the team with the best conference and overall record. Eight Conf. Games will be played, with each team playing a different cross conference opponent annually so as to keep a fair rotation in play.
In basketball, UALR will be in the East because they are farthest east out of them and Denver, and they do not sponsor football, so they can afford to allocate more budget for travel as opposed to ASU, ULM, ULL, and La Tech.
Something else to consider, UT-Arlington (located in Dallas/Fort Worth) will join UTSA and TXST in the WAC this summer. They are a non-football school.

all of these mock rosters with tons of teams are crazy. Why on Earth would we want to have 14, 16, 18, 20 teams?! 12 is the ideal size for the Sun Belt Conference.
East:
Troy
MTSU
WKU
FIU
Florida Atlantic
South
West:
Louisiana
stAte
ULM
La Tech
North Texas
Southern Miss

Nice list and I'd love to see it happen but I don't think USM will ever "lower" themselves to our level. A far more likely scenario is GSU in east and one of your east teams in west.

RE: Sun Belt / WAC Alliance
if C-USA falls apart I don't see what other option USM would have. all this talk about "sinking to our level" or "settling for the Belt" is stupid. It's an outdated opinion that has no basis in reality today. We have come a LONG way since 2001 and deserve respect. If we add Tech and Southern Miss to the roster that will only add to our prestige. Of course, Southern Miss will do much more for that than La Tech, but they will be a decent addition and they are already within our footprint. I'd like Troy to play both of those teams every year.

RE: Sun Belt / WAC Alliance
Preaching to the choir. You and I both know the Belt has drastically improved over the past few years and is in an upward trend but USM fans and donors don't follow or care about the Belt and base their opinions off of 2000 data. USM would sooner start their own conference and invite the cool kids. Heck, look at how UAB fans gaffed at the prospect. Now go tell a fan base that was expecting a BE invite that they ought to join the SBC.

Works for me too regarding WKU. Loseriana Tech can boil in their own juices.

RE: Sun Belt / WAC Alliance
Looks like a pissing match is in the making between the WAC and Sun Belt soon. I'm honestly asking, who is going to be in the WAC next year? From my understanding the teams going to the MWC are coming this season. And have TxSt and UTSA even moved up yet? All I know so far is
1. La Tech
2. Idaho
3. San Jose
4. Utah St
5. NMS
then
6. UTSA ?
7. TXST ?
8. Denver ? (Non football)
I would not feel very comfortable with the integrity of that conference if I was a Tech fan.

Texas State and UTSA join all sports in July. Along with Denver, Seattle, and UT Arlington for Olympic sports.
Boise will rejoin the league for Olympics as well, but that will be determined by when they join the Big East.

hell Texas State and UTSA may want to reconsider joining the WAC at this point. Let's bring one of 'em in to the Belt and add Tech, be done with it at 12.

RE: Sun Belt / WAC Alliance
I think UTSA would be a really great option for the belt because they bring a good market and a good stadium from my understanding. And unlike some FCS teams UTSA already has a schedule to become a D1 school so it would be as low a risk as you can make in terms of adding an fcs team. I just can't get excited about TXST now because I have never heard of them and it just seems like a WAC desperation move up. And to put things in perspective their literally at the same level as South Alabama right now so a 2013 join would be pretty ideal.
La Tech...I just may have pride but I think I would rather see big on their knee's or go back to FCS from the way their fans used to talk about us. A little over a year ago Tech fans mocked the Sun Belt and claimed they were runner ups for conference USA or bound to be in the alliance. So I ask why not Georgia St? UTSA technically won't be a FCS move up because they are WAC bound and La Tech has had some decent seasons to be followed by bad ones. But it won't help us a lot going forward to add them, won't give us a new market, and won't improve recruiting. Georgia St is not very well followed but gives a great market and probably decent attendance over time because I'm sure most Sun Belt schools have many alumni in the city.

I want to see what happens with the CUSA before I talk about all this SBC expansion. We need to know who's going to be staying around and who's going to get an invite to the CUSA...

TxState has 30K+ students
after they finish the remodel of their stadium it will hold 30K the same as North Texas State
they have nearly identical admissions as North Texas State and a slightly larger endowment and a higher research profile that is improving rapidly with the addition of new programs
they already have a baseball program with a pretty decent on campus facility and they are about 35-40 minutes south of Austin and about 90 minutes north of San Antonio with one of the nicest campuses in the USA with a great tubing river running through it
Fran the former TCU, Bamer, and TAMU coach is their coach now and has been there one season after having coached there years ago before they started looking to move up to D1-A
