That's getting old too. They're living off of their past.
I don't quite understand what you mean by that.
We're only 2 seasons removed from back-to-back conference championships, and even though our on-field product has been mediocre we set attendance records in 2010 and 2011. In fact, our average attendance last year (50,012) was more than anyone else in the new Big East. If anything, we're living off our fan support, and I don't see anything wrong with that.
You are correct that ECU has great football fan support. Unfortunately, many of your remaining conference mates do not. USM is good - but you are all now so far flung I wonder if the support will still stay strong. ECU really does deserve better, I'm just not sure the big boys will call your name. If they don't, will your remaining conference mates provide any rivalries?

I'm attendance-blind, that doesn't matter when you're talking about the quality of play on the field.
Last 10 seasons
2011 5-7
2010 6-6
2009 9-5
2008 9-5
2007 8-5
2006 7-6
2005 5-6
2004 2-9
2003 1-11
2002 4-8
Avg. wins = 5.6

Yeah, I wasn't sure if 'living off the their past' meant the 1990's or our back-to-back championships in 08-09, that's all.
By the way, compare our last 10 seasons to that of all of the Big East add-ons not named Boise or Houston and you'll see why many of our fans are bitter.

Outside of Southern Miss and Marshall, it's hard to say.

ECU has an enrollment of over 27K and has a good following. That profile doesn't match up with what's left of CUSA. You guys need to leave that mess.

RE: Go to the CUSA board for a few laughs
Actually, attendance at most C-USA schools is pretty good, although some of the stronger drawing programs like UCF are leaving. The problem with these crazy almost nationwide conferences is that there is not much in the way of rivalries and history. Lumping MWC and C-USA together just for the purposes of eking out a few more bucks in TV revenue doesnt' really justify the merger. And, unless some more eastern schools are added, Marshall and ECU will continue to be points of a compass east that are removed from all the other conference members. The problem is, I don't know what the answer is for ECU unless the BE comes a-calling.

I know when I made a similar comment it is in reference to some in the fan base that act like that ECU has a dominating record and that they deserve to be in the same breath as say Boise, Utah, or TCU. Personally after looking at the overall record I just don't see it. You have a couple stand out seasons but are otherwise not so exciting. Now this is something to be proud of for sure but those same fans act and talk like that is better than about everybody else in the non-AQ when the truth is other schools have that history too (for instance several MAC schools have excellent football history).
Of course this is in response to records not attendance. ECU has great attendance and should be proud of that. It also makes sense that due to that ECU fans tend to value attendance more than most. For me team quality matters more so I don't value attendance (which is a good thing considering where I am from) and I tend to view such things as being analogous to a popularity contest.
I also recall you being a very reasonable poster and so I should say that this does not apply to you.

That was a very misleading way to twist numbers. Granted, you guys seemed to hit a peak, but take away 2002-2005 and that number is higher.

Don't bother reading or responding to my posts.
The numbers are what they are. Go back another 10 years and ECU has 65 wins for a 6.5 avg over that span. Add the last 20 years and you have an avg. of 6.05 wins per season.
Shoo! Little boy.
