I think the MAC has a bit of an advantage as they play the majority of their OOC AQ games against the B1G as they share a geographical footprint with B1G. The B1G top to bottom is not as strong as the SEC with whom the SBC shares a geographical footprint . . and against whom the SBC plays most of their OOC AQ games along with the Big 12 and ACC.
Go stAte . . Go SBC !!

Your thinking rationally.
Unfotunately no one else seems to be. All they KNOW (erronesouly) is that the 'Belt is a HORRIBLE confrence and they want no part of it. It IS the youngest and therefore should of been the worst for its 1st decade.
Now the facilities have improved. Budgets/Salaries are up and the confrence is poised to become one of the best Non-AQ. If a few of the other schools could be convinced of that then it would no longer be poised, it WOULD be one of the best.
Hopefully whoever our new commissioner will be will try to take us to the next level. WW seemed pretty complacement in terms of being agressive.
Perception is reality. NO TEAM that is in a better conference, at least perception wise, will do what they perceive as a DROP DOWN to the Sun Belt. Maybe we need to change our name, because the Sun Belt Conference has a stigma about it. If we expand, the only schools we will attract are the ones moving up to 1A or left overs from the slowly imploding WAC.
When SBC teams consistently win their OOC games and consistently take down some of the AQ teams the perception of the SBC will change just as it did for the MAC . . no need to change the name of the conference . . each SBC team just needs to do its part and win the non-SBC games !!
Go stAte . . Go SBC !!
Mr. Wolfe, you must not be a good business man. If the Sun Belt had a better TV deal than CUSA, they would be crying to come to us. Thank your boy Waters for this!!

The fire storm of speculation and what-ifs have begun to stir once again with the announcement that Memphis is officially moving to the Big East Conference and leaving behind its 17 year affiliation with Conference USA.
The proposed merger between Conference USA and Mountain West Conference looks to be closing in on finality but with seven of C-USA’s schools located east of the Mississippi River, some feel the Sun Belt Conference may be a better fit.
The Sun Belt began sponsoring football in 2001, making it the newest kid on the block in the Football Bowl Subdivision, but has quickly gained respect as a quality league.
Last season, the conference produced four bowl-eligible teams but is still looking to improve upon its 8-11 overall record in the postseason.
“We have seen a lot of positive growth over the last several years,” Troy athletic director Steve Dennis said. “We have become better and better every year.”

The writer says that USM has three Belt teams with 250 miles (Troy, ULL and ULM) but fails to note that USA is only 98 miles away. Odd that he missed that since he mentions USA later. USM and USA have played each other consistently for years in most sports and both schools send fans to the other campus for away games.

Easy to blame Waters for this, what do you think he should have done differently? Walk in and demand the best television contract of all the non-AQ conferences? It's not like any network is falling all over themselves to broadcast our games. How do you know that he din't get us a better contract than someone else could have?

I'm pretty sure it was an oversight, but you'll see more mistakes as you get closer to being FB$-ready.
