That it happened is no surprise... That people are pretending this, and the other two bowls they could lose, are no big deal *is*

What happened to this quote?

"There is no objective measure by which the Owls would not have been a better choice."

I would be shocked if this bowl move wasn't part of the offer to Memphis.

You know, you're right. That is an excellent point and might have tipped the balance.

I think there are the obvious stats like W/L, NCAA appearances, market share, etc. that people can point to and say Memphis is a better choice than Temple or vice versa. But I'm sure there are a lot of conversations going on that we are not privy to that probably swing the balance one way or another (like the Liberty Bowl).

Memphis just 4 or 5 years ago was drawing 40,000 a game to the Liberty Bowl. Temple has never put up numbers like that in the Linc.

In a similar manner as UTEP, Memphis has one of those fickle football fanbases that doesn't come out without the hype. In the Big East Memphis is going to get a lot more hype and it should help with recruiting now that they officially play in a "AQ" conference.

Then it got dliluted by the SEC (what #8, #9 pick..sheesh). The C-USA boards are full of delusional folks who like to make fun of the BE and Memphis (football esp). Ironic in that Memphis' hoops program got them the invite to the BE, but in the process it was a dagger to the heart for C-USA as they lost their highest profile bowl game in the process.

You C-USA posters that come on here probably think all MAC fans hate C-USA....actually, most of us root hard for non AQ schools when they play the BCS conference boys...it's just that your posters make it so hard to feel friendly when the posts are always tainted with how superior they think C-USA is vs other non AQ conferences. The endless posts of "who do we invite now" with the implication that if invited, well of course everyone would say yes. And then the endless slams of schools like La Tech, and when their posters come on your board to defend themselves, they get slammed again.

It used to be no question but now after being here I sometimes wonder if I want some programs to win those games and most of the worst offenders are in CUSA whose superiority complex is insane (heck they are the Notre Dame of non-AQ in their attitude which is that they had some good programs but they have not been so great now but they live off the hype of the past as if it matters).

That sounds like the way Miami and Bowling Green fans talk...counting up their MAC Championships from 70's and 80's.

Excellent point.

eCK: And what to OU fans talk up, Louis..all their football conference titles from the 90's and 2000's? How many would that be?
Miami had MAC football titles (and bowl wins) in 2003 and 2010 by the way, but I'm pretty sure you knew that but must've forgot somehow.
