I'm kinda unsure about this move. I totally think we're better off staying an Indy because its an easier schedule and easier path to a bowl game. We'll see what happens in a few years.

Any other Navy fans/Sailors/Midshipmen on the boards.

RE: Navy Vet here
Navy was one of my home teams growing up. I don't think this move was for the best either. I'd still like to see Army and Navy in the ACC but I know that's unrealistic. If nothing else, what will it take to get Navy to play Maryland more than once every 20 years?

Yea Army and Navy in the ACC is very unrealistic. I feel the ACC would do more harm to Navy than the Big East would. The players each school are recruiting are future Officers and not future NFL players. Plus you have to factor in weight/height restrictions esp for the big men up front. We'll see what happens but I predict within 10 years of BE play Navy will end up an Indy again.

As for Navy-Maryland, I have no idea. I don't know the ins and outs of the program.

RE: Navy Vet here
I'm an 2001 grad and I am doubtful of the move as well. I just feel that the nBe is trying to go somewhere atheletically that no service academy can get to. I have no problem with that. When Paul Johnson coached Navy they implimented a 4-4-4 strategy meaning 4 winninable games 4 tough games and 4 medium games. The nBe breaks that mold for the Mids and could eventually lead to consecutive losing seasons. It just seems that Navy simply examined the positive aspects of joining a conference (money) and not the negative like losing. The academy is a depressing place during the best of times, being there when the fb team is losing makes it worse (all Mids have to attend all home games)

As for Navy-MD, prior to joining the nBe, I felt that enough time had past (read old alumni giving up the ghost) that the series would have eventually gotten to a every other year series. Being in the nBe kills that dream since Navy has three series that they are absolutely going to maintain (ND, AF, Army) leaving only one free date. Navy won't want to lock that up with another series.

I salute your service Sir. I agree with you on the OOC games Navy must maintain on an annual basis. I'd love to see the Pitt series continue, but that's going to be hard. If anything that open date should be used for a 1AA or MAC school.

Not a vet, but don't hold that against me.

I have to agree with you all the service academies do not belong in the BE. You guys will simply not be able to keep up with the level of athletic ability over the course of the season. Navy can hold its own when playing three or four BCS schools and a bunch of nonAQs. But by the time 2015 rolls around, all of those C-USA schools are going to have BCS caliber players hitting the field.

On a personal note, I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to playing the academies. I love having you guys on the schedule. These are great old rivalries. I love the game day atmosphere at Annapolis and West Point. My tailgate always invites the Cadets/Midshipmen to join us. Watching these young people always makes me proud.

On the other hand, I hate that fing option offense with all the cut blocking that you guys like to run. Yes it is affective and works well for you guys with your undersized linemen and all. But it is hell on the legs of the opposing teams D-line. Without doubt, the after affect of the Navy game this past season, played a roll in us loosing the next week to Ville. If you’re so inclined, go look at a tape of that game. Our D-line isn’t doing anything, and I believe it is because they are still chipped up from playing Navy the week before.

Anyway, good luck and welcome on board

Navy will be just fine just schedule an FCS team, two very winnable OOC games like the home and home you guys scheduled with my Trojans, and I highly doubt you guys get swept in Big East play. Long as you can win 3-4 games a year in conference play you will be good.

I just don't see Memphis, SDSU, and SMU becoming impossible for Navy to beat. Houston, Boise, Cincy, and Louisville are another story.

Good points.

I think Navy will be just fine here in the Big East.

Welcome aboard !! Glad to have you here. I've had Navy on my membership wish list for a long time.

OLD Memphis Tiger here (Class of 1970). I am proud and excited for my school to be affiliated with Navy. I wish Army and AFA would also join the Big East.
