I am sure donors (unless you are at the Barsema, Yordon, Chesick level, who should have a space reserved for them period) understand that if they are not using a space, and Athletics can make some money by charging someone else to use it, that's a good thing.
What is unclear here is why are the East lots so empty, and what can be done to maximize revenue there?
Here is a shocker. The East Lot parking passes WERE oversold last year. So YES donors who are also season ticket holders are not showing up for Saturday games.
Not neccesarrily.. they maybe be tailgating with friends in other lots...
Also their $500-$1000 donation is being used by the HASF to improve athletics..
Paying $40/game to park in huskie lot is the equivalent of being a spirit level donor over 5 games...So just pay up and stop complaining.
Why would they park elsewhere? So other than the WMU game where are all the donors that paid the extra fee for a spot in that lot?
The point is that HASF this for the past few years has oversold the Huskie lot to try and improve the attendance in that lot.

We're apparently not speaking the same language here. I am not for anyone losing a parking space that they have donated money for and receive as a premium for their donation. Please understand that and don't assume that is what I'm saying.
I AM saying that the lot looks 1/2 empty most game days, and it seems to me an opportunity to make money since there are people willing to pay to park there. Now, HJ says that lot is oversold. I don't understand how that can be. It may be that what athletics is calling the "Lot" is a lot smaller than the vast green empty space that I see.
But I'm getting worn out trying to suggest ideas only to have naysayers shoot them down. Some I am sure aren't donors, yet are willing to speak for all donors.
BTW, if the HASF is pushing sales of spaces in that lot and the lot is oversold yet empty, what does that say? It seems awkward to ask fans to tailgate on east side with students and then walk to west side to enter. Just weird, but hey.
Carter- read what i wrote. I don't really care who parks there or if it's empty. I suggested that, since it is 1/2 empty that there was an opportunity to raise some revenue BASED ON SUPPLY AND DEMAND. If you don't get that, then I hope and pray you are not a graduate of the college of business.

Also the $500 donors (until this season) all received passes to the HASF tent thus reducing their likely tailgating. So you could have a huge number of cars parked in the East lot with no tailgaters adding to the festivities.

My $40 suggestion was for people who are already HASF donors who do not have season parking passes. The open spots would be allocated per loyalty points. There are hundreds of people who are donors of less than $499 and I bet there would be enough of those types to fill the East lot for all the Saturday games and maybe even have a good show for the blackout game.
That's 87.50 per game for the Huskie Lot and if I were allotted a parking pass for 1 game I would pay the $40 on top of my $100 donation. So really I would be paying $140 for the per game price to park in the Huskie Lot. The important part is not overselling the lot to begin with while selling a parking pass for each game (after the schedule is released).

Not sure what they are doing to cultivate new donors. The perfect way to start would be to market those who have ordered single game tickets, and try to get those as donors/season ticket holders. I'm not sure if this is done. While it's nice to try to increase donations from current donors, the realities of the economy may not make this fruitful.
Two years ago when the Huskies played at UIC (basketball), I bought tickets that ended up going through UIC. I now get e-mails and personal telephone calls from UIC to try to get me to buy more game tickets or become a season ticket holder. This is how you do it.

+1 That would be a great inexpensive way to increase the number of tickets sold.

RE: HASF Kickoff Report
you cultivate donors from the point they are students. if you are trying to cultivate donors who are alum who don't currently care, you've (the university) missed the boat

I was a big fan when I was a student 99-04 but then the season after I graduated (05) I only went to 2 home games (HC & WMU). After that I missed ALL of the 2006-2009 seasons and finally made it back for Toledo in 2010. Starting out after graduation it was too much of a cost for me along with not knowing if I could make all the games. I found myself not even keeping up with the scores...Sad to ha
Athletics MUST offer young alums (up to 4 years after graduation) discounted tickets.
My idea is up to 2 discount for season tickets or 4 mini plans for the East stands for the young alums to keep the interest going. As the East stands no longer get a discount for season tickets it would make sense to have a 33% discount for that group of people. So for this year they would pay $80 for season tickets and $40 for a 3 game mini plan.
At this point its not like athletics would lose money by doing this. Attendance would increase, alum support would increase and athletics would have some extra cash. Those alums would be more likely to be donors or even bigger donors in the future.

I have only seen a discount for the Alum Association to young alumni.
I know there is a space on the main page for young alumni but nothing has been on it since I found it.
http://www.niuhuskies.com/support-groups...lumni.html
Actually I guess they could have offered something when I was considered a young alum but it was not marketed properly.
