I think they should have the high level donor reception at the Yordon as a separate event that is by invitation only...which would be no charge.

Totally agree. Only the arses of the super high donors are currently kissed.

Anyone donating over $1,000 should be included in this type of thing.

I have always said that they need to cultivate donors at and above that level. A simple tour of the Yordon, Huskie Stadium, and Convo Center with an inexpensive light dinner on a Saturday would go a long way. This would also give the higher donors an opportunity to meet.

Come-on guys! Suck it up and make it out there!

I am getting out of work early, driving an hour home, picking up the family, drive an hour to DeKalb and it is going to get our schedule all out of whack!

03-melodramatic Don't you love your Huskies enough 03-weeping

Be realistic, John. Some of us live in the city - or further - that makes a weeknight drive to DeKalb difficult if not impossible. For some of us, going to DeKalb is a day-long event. If this event were on a Saturday or even Sunday, those of us who have to travel great distances would be there.

For those people its fine if you miss the event. I am really speaking to those that would have to travel less and who it would be less of an inconvenience for then it is for me.

I'm going to try to get out of work early so I can get there, hopefully nothing will come up on Wednesday that stops me from leaving.....

I am pretty sure the highest donors already know each other. Either through assigned parking at HS, or skybox or etc..

Not necessarily true. It is, however, true for those who live locally and are able to attend everything. Many of these people are neighbors or know each other from other local connections. The local Huskie fans will go to EVERYTHING held at NIU, including the high school basketball games.

No offense but most of the large donors (Chessick, Rich, Yordon, etc) don't live in Dekalb and aren't neighbors.

Not to be crude, but they know each other because of their amount of wealth. Donations are like a score card. Sure there is some merit to what they are doing (tax incentives also) but a part of it is a scorecard.

Hedge fund guys do it, anyone with large amounts of wealth does it. Colleges halls, stadiums, schools are named after donors and not professors.

I am talking about donors in the $2,000 area and above. There are not all that many, but this is a group they should work to cultivate.

Chessick, Yordon, et. al. know each other because they are invited gratis to every event, stand with the team on the field or are given skybox seats, and fly together with the team to post-season events.

oh ok...that makes more sense...

they should try to get every HASF donor to increase their level every year..Obviously not going to happen, but that should be their attempt.

Any new info other than the "Huskieland" and the groundbreaking ceremony? How was the turnout?

Doing a write up now.

In short IMO our Athletic Department took a big step forward from last year.

RE: HASF Kickoff Report
First they used 90% of the gym instead of 50%. They added a bunch of big tables with chairs and only used the bar (stand up) tables sparingly. There was plenty of room but it didn't seem empty at all. There were MANY more in attendance than I thought there would be due to it being a weeknight

Student athletes were handing out the packets. I recognized Lynch and Womble (who looks thinner in the face).

There were a few booths where you could make your donation and renew your season tickets via credit card, IPF info with the other MM, 2011 Champions book (limited run of 500 only), MAC Championship replica ring and some people that looked like they were selling a big rock with a Huskie logo on it (anyone know what that was about?)

The food was burgers, breaded chicken sandwiches, fries, onion straw things, fried zucchini, chips/salsa & popcorn. Unlike last year there were no cookies or pop. There was coffee and water to drink (I was okay with that but wife wanted caffeine).

The packet contents are much more professional looking than last year. They really did a great job with the brochure and renewal form. Also there was a 2011 MAC Champions football poster with the team pic in the center and individual game pics from each game with the score W/L.

The podium was a huge upgrade from last year which was a wrinkled NIU flag tacked up on in. This year there was a nice tri-fold thing with images of athletes with a slogan. This year they had a power point presentation to go over the changes. The presentations visuals and content were both impressive and very easy to understand.

The changes...lots
Movie lot is now the spirit lot.
Spirit level donation is now $175
Cardinal & Black donation is now $300
Donor parking pass is going up to $25

HASF FB hospitality tent donation now $750

Huskie Pride ($1000+) and up donors can buy 1 additional parking pass

Benchback seats require $100 donation + $60 per seat premium.

Chairback seats require $175 donation + $100 per seat premium. (I e-mailed asking if its that's per seat, per set of seats or for as many as you can get)

With your season ticket order you will get 2 FREE away game tickets to a Conference game. This was on the MAC board the past few days and according to Shelley its going to be conference wide. This was AD Compher's idea that he pitched to the other MAC AD's. The MAC front office had nothing to do with this.

Basketball
MBB Courtside seats - $300 HASF donation + $300 per seat premium
WBB courtside seats - $100 HASF donation + $50 per seat premium

6th man grill you need to donate at the new Cardinal & Black level $300.

After the presentation the lights came up and there was the pep band who immediately started playing the fight song.

This is the second one of these that I have attended but comparing this year with last year other than this not being on a weekend our athletic department hit this one out of the park.

Great update! Looking forward to more info. Did you buy a championship book? Is it worth the money and are there any left that you know of?

Look up

Yes I just looked thew the book all the way (without reading). It certainly helps that I have my picture in the book twice. At first glance it seems very much like the DC magazine except higher quality paper but looking threw it there is much more...and like I said I haven't read it year but I am very happy I got it...especially since I didn't get a hat.

The books went on sale today to the people at the kickoff. After that the athletes and parents are open to buy them. I would HIGHLY SUGGEST to everyone that wants one to call the HASF office tomorrow and place an order. These things were selling like crazy and I wouldn't be surprised if they were more than half gone tomorrow with them being sold out by Monday.

IMO, the emails about this should go to Jeff. He needs to be in the loop whether or not he delegates this issue to Shelley.
