* You are 5-31 over the least 3 years, and have only 3 wins against FBS opponents in that time.
* You haven't had a winning records since 2007.
* You currently hold a record of 3–3 in some of the lowest-tier, unwatched bowl games ever played. The Burley Bowl was not an NCAA sanctioned Division I FBS bowl game.

Date Bowl Opponent Result Score
November 22, 1956 Burley Bowl East Tennessee State W 32–12
December 18, 1971 Pasadena Bowl San Jose State W 28–9
December 16, 2003 New Orleans Bowl North Texas W 27–17
December 22, 2004 GMAC Bowl Bowling Green L 52–35
December 26, 2005 Motor City Bowl Akron W 38–31
December 21, 2007 New Orleans Bowl Florida Atlantic L 44–27
December 20, 2008 St. Petersburg Bowl South Florida L 41–14

Memphis football is as bad as any program in the country and has been for a long, long time. You were admitted for basketball and for the promise of future football improvement. You're not expected to make it to a bowl game in the foreseeable future in the Big East. Everyone just wants you to not suck and to put 35,000 people in the stands when everyone else comes to play. No one expects you too win in football any more than they expect Houston or SMU basketball to win a Big East conference title in the foreseeable future.

But please, this is the Big East board not the Conference USA board . . . act accordingly.

RE: Memphis? Why?
This is like ground hog day, and the only people complaining are former members of CUSA and the western schools. No one ever said we haven't sucked the last 3 years, don't you think we know all the stats. Everything is in place or being put into place to vastly improve football. Hell, during those "unwatchable" bowl game years, we were kicking your ass.

Then act like you know. . . . the Memphis fans came out of the box acting like a bunch of frat boys (and it does take one to know one). If your daughter's boyfriend acted and spoke to you in your own home like you have acted the last two days in this BIG EAST forum, you would have smacked him in the mouth.

You're in the real world. You got what you wanted. We all got we wanted . . a seat at the table . . . believe me, we UH, SMU, UCF, Boise State fans have been here for a couple of months now. We've taken our own hits. We know we have something to prove and aren't shy about doing it. But, all in all, we've done so without disrespect, foul language, or lack of civility . . .

If you want to play in the BCS, then act like a BCS fan of a BCS school. If you want to be taken serious by serious people, who question why you're here; then state your facts, make your argument, and act accordingly.

Seriously? Go look at all the fights you guys have started. Show me a thread, outside of homefry, that we started. You think we are going to sit here and let you guys say crap to us, and not defend ourselves? Who are you to be judge and jury?

Aww, the "he started it" defense. Rock solid defense. I'd stick with it.

Go count the foul language, disrespect, and general lack of civility in Memphis posters' posts in the last two days and compare that to the posts by regular Big East board members over the last two months . . . then come back to this post and answer your own question . . .

You may think Memphis posters' posts are funny, witty, etc. . . but in reality, it's embarrassing to the University of Memphis, who like UH, SMU, UCF, Boise State, and SDSU, has much to prove to a group of universities who were old before our institutions were even founded . . .

And, I ask you again. Please point to where we've done this (outside one or two comments from the peanut gallery).

I think you're blowing it out of proportion and acting a tad self-righteous yourself. JMHO.

The only thing this thread proves is that the part-time members have fans who must be in junior high. If their memory of athletics is so short that they can only remember last year, then they are useless.

Aww, the "I'm so innocent" defense. In a messageboard it can be proven, and I will stick with it.

WHAT???

UH will have A BRAND NEW ON CAMPUS STADIUM when we enter the BIG EAST. We begin construction this year.
And Hoffheinz Pavilion is completely being redone!!

good. you dont have those facilities yet. BTW, the only way to make Hoffheinz habitable is to drop a daisy cutter through the roof.

That's not nice. You'd kill all the homeless who call Hofheinz home.

And, I ask you again. Please point to where we've done this (outside one or two comments from the peanut gallery).

I think you're blowing it out of proportion and acting a tad self-righteous yourself. JMHO.

I think the major concern to all here should be why a fan of USF, who we've been just as good as historically and head to head and a fan of Georgetown, who doesn't even play FB in the BE, has such a hard time understanding the "potential" of Memphis being as good or better than USF in the first few years. LOL

Gonna have to stop you there. She's not an actual Georgetown fan. Didn't attend the school, didn't live in the area, has never been to a game. It's like me claiming I'm an Alabama fan or somesuch. Very few Georgetown fans I've encountered have any issue with these moves, and most issues (anecdotally speaking) pertain to the western programs as well as the impending loss of Syracuse and Pitt.

I attended my first Georgetown game in 1978. How about you? 01-wingedeagle

03-lmfao I bet you did, sweetie. I bet you did.

However, the 50 other FBS caliber players that come out of that state every year are basically between Ole Miss, MSU, USM, and Memphis for the most part with battles against Arkansas on occasion.

... and how is Memphis going to recruit against those schools?

We've recruited against those schools for 100 years. For many stretches(50s, 60s, 70s, early 80s, early 2000s) very successfully despite the disadvantages placed against us.

You seriously think some 3-star kid is going to pick Memphis when he can play in the SEC? It beggars belief.

Absolutely, a three star in Memphis will get playing time on national TV now, whereas the same three star would be riding the bench in the SEC. The one thing in the past we haven't been able to offer them is exposure because our TV contract was...not the best. Look, no one is under the illusion that Memphis is going to go undefeated all of a sudden, but this dead on arrival crap it pathetic and uncalled for. The Big East insisted we give them a plan on how to improve, we did and here we are. Millions of dollars of private funds are going into the program to make it viable, all we're asking for is you at least give us a bit of breathing room while we right the ship before you decide to sink it.

Since nothing said on this forum matters at all to the people who run big east schools, you have no need to beg me for breathing room. you are now in the big east, and will thus have your chance to prove your claims. i will likewise continue to voice my doubts ...
