Go check out SDSU on the site. Not amazing, but light years better then Memphis.

Some key wins in Memphis FB history:

Florida
Auburn
UT with Peyton Manning
USC (the one on the west coast)
Ole Miss with Eli Manning
Record versus Arkansas - 3-1
Alabama

To name a few.

It's just not a good situation history wise when you have to rely on single victories such as beating a 3-8 Auburn (1976), a 7-5 Florida (1988), & a 3-8 USC (1991). Memphis wasn't even a bowl team any of those years.

We're not saying there can't be future success. And yes almost everyone has won a few upsets over the decades. It's fair to say though that historical success is very limited when there's only 1 appearance in a final AP poll (1963). Consider that Memphis only has 2 seven win seasons in the past 35 years. Sometimes there are surprises, but I don't think fans outside Memphis are going to expect gridiron success.

Good. Will be really nice to kick their butt then. Poof nothing but a pile of feathers.

As I mentioned there are always surprises like the Memphis win in Louisville in 2003! In the end though the Cards should continue their nearly annual victories over the Tigers. 16-4 in the last quarter century against Memphis. 05-stirthepot

Yea but that is why the game is played, for the next quarter century.

04-cheers

Aztec - I am sure all your students are ecstatic about your rich FB tradition as well.

People that throw darts at Memphis FB know little or nothing about many or even any of its historic highlights.

SDSU shot its basketball program in the head to get a slightly better deal for football. At least or AD and BE officials were willing to accept ALL of our programs without telling us to kill one. Im beginning to hate SDSU more than Louise or Cindy fans.

It makes zero sense for our non-football sports to be in the Big East. The travel alone would cost more than we'd get for making the switch. We'd be better off staying in the MW.

Our basketball will be just fine. Steve Fisher is the reason for our basketball program being what it is, not the MW.

Wait until you've had a football team for 100 years...you'll have a few down times.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, frankly.

If you can't admit that your football program is, and has been, a complete waste for what seems like forever, you're not only delusional -- you're part of the problem.

The only way memphis gets better is to acknowledge that there are issues. Fans, alumni and school administrators need to make a serious commitment to the football program. Period. Hell, WSJ wrote a damn article saying the exact same thing. Invest or get rid of it.

I can only hope that there's a plan to elevate Memphis's play on the field as part of membership, and that this isn't purely a basketball add. For starters, something needs to be done about that shithole of a stadium you guys play in. The liberty bowl is the physical embodiment of hepatitis.

Again, not really sure what that has to do with being AQ ready.

Can you honestly sit there and say that Memphis, today, has the infrastructure, local and administrative support for an AQ level football team? No. Absolutely not. And until super recently, Memphis made it clear that it's a basketball school first and football is a mere afterthought. It's okay to be realistic and honest about your program. Really, it is.

I'll start. We were found liable for killing a kid, we have a shittastic coach we can't get rid of and a lame duck staff that works for him since he only has a few years left on his contract. Also, we're under investigation by the NCAA for recruitment violations concerning kids we didn't even land. We're a gamblers dream due to the predictive nature of our seasons -- up, down, up down, etc. We've only won one bowl game and a few games against BCS opponents. We're a young program, having only played D1 ball since 96. Our ADs have historically been terrible, and it's caused USF to curb stump us in athletics both on and off the field.

See? Isn't humility easy? Give it a whirl.

Or, you know, keep up the pillow fight with little ol' SDSU. Whichever.

Hmmm...I guess you missed the part in the 1960's and 1970's where we did really well against what were basically SEC schedules. We were one of the 10 winningest teams in the 60's...meaningless now, but we have been there. Then, we had a dumb-*** president who decided to de-emphasize football, and the rest is a mostly depressing history.

Actually yes we do. We've made tons of upgrades to our facilities over the last five years and have several more in progress. Your ignorance of our facilities is not my problem.

Memphis has been and continues to pump millions into the football program.......we will get better. Have we sucked? Hell yes, we have. Can it be turned around? Hell yes, and the pieces are already in place.

I can't wait to play SDSU!
