PJ Fleck editorial (then logout)
I had to come back and state a few things when I got the news on PJ Fleck.

Most football fans realize its a BUSINESS and that it's about taking care of number one. Nobody begrudges a football coach making job moves and climbing the ladder. It's the nature of the beast...go where opportunity is and never stop taking care of number one in a cutthroat business.

But HOW PJ Fleck handled this situation was crappy. He acted like an immature weasel, period.

But what I think MOST of you are most upset about is that in PJ Fleck you envisioned the future lifetime head coach of NIU football. As if that fantasy had any connection to reality, or more importantly, would actually be GOOD for NIU football in the long-term. You're mad because PJ Fleck violated your fervent belief that he wouldn't be like Jerry Kill, Urban Meyer, Brady Hoke, Butch Jones, Brian Kelly....nope, PJ would operate in the mold of Saint Joe and stay in DeKalb for a very long time. The NIU job would be PJ's holy grail.

Well shame on all of you who thought that. Very selfish and very delusional on your part. Most of all, it was a direct slap at Dave Doeren. Look, everybody knows that if NIU football tastes more success then Doeren is out the door for greener pastures. But how can some of you so dismiss Doeren as part of your blind passion for Fleck?!? This is the man who took NIU football to its greatest heights ever in 2010-11. Yet you can't wait to see him leave because now PJ is in the fold and he will be the loyalist that NIU football so desperately craves?!? Pardon me while I puke.

I love Dave Doeren. It's about time the doorknobs and drool monkeys who populate this site do the same. And when Doeren leaves, you same people need to richly thank the man for his great contributions to NIU football.

PJ Fleck? I wish him well. Awfully big step to become a wide receivers coach in the NFL. Hopefully he lives up to the faith being invested in him by the Buccaneers. But I have a lot of red flags about that Tampa situation.....wholesale moves of assistant coaches from Rutgers to an NFL team???? How can that sort of nepotism really be good for the Bucs and their development?!? Clearly it wasn't the case of hiring the best available NFL assistants.

Over and out until the next big development peaks my interest.

What makes you think people can't wait for Doeren to leave? We just figure he's going to, as you'd be the first to point out.

I had a feeling this would bring WD out of his back pecker-woods. Go back to your hole, it has been nice without you.

Yeah I'm not really sure where WD has sensed people are not happy with Coach Doeren. My only single criticism of his is a very minor one in that he seems to really hammer home that idea that NIU is in a 2nd tier of college football and I think that can carry over to non-conference games in not exactly instilling confidence that NIU can compete with some of the better programs. I only find that a little negative because he was selling the program as "we want to be the next TCU or Boise St" during his first year recruiting period. It seems to me either you have the vision that we can compete or you don't. But how do you argue with a guy that brought the program a MAC championship.

The amusing part is that he couldn't just add his take on the PJ story to one of the existing PJ threads.

Nope. He's so self-important that he had to start his own thread to announce his long awaited return to the board and then bless us with his thoughts.

Again........03-zzz

There are those that thought Fleck would be a good HC, and maybe the next one after Doeren. Nobody was saying Doeren should be gone so that Fleck could be HC. He's misrepresenting what people are saying. Or, he just can't figure it out.

Whiskey is a Dick.

I haven't heard people ripping into Dave Doeren at all. Sure he may do a thing or two that someone doesn't like but that isn't ripping the guy. WD talks about when DD leaves we will all have to richly thank him. Who knows how DD will do. He has been here for ONE year.

I hope he does great - but he hasn't proven anything yet except he can take over a good team and keep them good.

People were excited for PJ for the FUTURE. My hope was that DD was here for 5 years, turned this place into a TCU/Boise and then PJ had the experience to step in.

I couldn't care less that PJ decided to go to Tampa, he will learn alot and may come back. I do care that PJ handled it like a child who was getting his first job at McDonald's.

And then he got a call from Chile's and left McDonald's in the dust.

I'm telling your doctor you were on here WD. (isn't he the one that told u to stop being on here or something like that?)

anyway. I agree. just pissed at how he handled it. in any profession its unproffesional to accept a job and then decline. it recently happened at my job and it coated us a lot of money.

if you do that as a recent graduate of NIU they strip you of all ure career services benefits. just rude, especially to an organization that has really invested in you and made a comitment to do it again
