RE: Alaska Game Two-Saturday
We play harder, particularly in the first period, against the better teams than we do against the marginal teams. We need to get up and motivated just as much for the BGU's and Alaska's as we do for Notre Dame and U of M. I wish I could say I am completely sold on Murray. If we dont make the NCAA Tournament this will have been a tremendously disappointing year.

It's that time of the year.....

BUGS beat ND, State beat OSU, Michigan is up on Miami. We need NMU who is down to Ferris 2-1 to rally and win now. SO, do you think ND and Miami aren't completely sold on their coaches right now?

Wow, our performance against the conference's bottom feeders leave a lot to be desired - especially when three of four games were at Lawson. These past two weeks should've netted us 9 points, minimum.

Did a lot better AT Alaska earlier in the season. What gives?

Come on now, folks. This will be a dogfight to the end. We all knew that.

It's looking more and more like this team will need to get to the CCHA title game if they want another NCAA bid.

No offense. Forget the talk about needing elite scorers for the NCHC. There should be enough talent now to push more than 7 pucks past a goaltender in 4 games vs. BG and UA_. Since X-mas break, they have 22 goals in 12 games.

Considering our streak of futility prior to last year, I still consider a trip to the Joe to qualify as a successful season (an NCAA invite is gravy, imo).

Considering we have one real potent line, I think our expectations needed some reality checks. We're a nasty team to play against when we get the lead early, coming from behind? Not so much.

This is a great season, seeing us in first or second at this time of the year is MONEY to me.

On a side note, Michigan Tech has as many goals through 2 periods tonight as Western has had in 4 games, up 7-3 at MSU Mankato.

Of course, they also took 3 of 4 points from UMD @ UMD last week, so odds are they'd kick our ass, too. Furk.

RE: Alaska Game Two-Saturday
So, we're looking at-

1. Ferris State (22 games played) 12 W/ 41 points (On a side note, their only home loss all season was vs. Western)
2. Western Michigan (22) 11 W/ 39
3. Michigan (22) 11 W/38
4. Notre Dame (22) 11 W/ 36
5. Miami (24) 11 W/ 36
6. Ohio State (24) 10 W/ 36
7. Michigan State (22) 10W/ 35
8. Lake Superior (22) 9W/35
9. Northern Michigan (22) 7W/ 30
10. Alaska (24) 7W/ 27
11. Bowling Green (22) 4W/19

2 at home vs. an Ohio State team winless in 2012, 2 @Lake State and home and home vs. Ferris. Western can still finish anywhere from 1st to 9th. (We hold the 2nd tiebreaker over Alaska: 2-1-1 season series) All 6 games are vs. teams in the Pairwise. (2nd and 5th would miss the tourney as of tonight, while 7th and 9th would make it. Go figure)

Michigan and Miami had a full out line brawl tonight. Trying to find a box score to see who gets suspended next week.

Edit: Michigan faces Michigan State @MSU and @JLA, while Miami hosts UAH for two.

Well done, Miami.

I don't think expecting an NCAA tournament appearance is too high an expectation considering last year and all the hype surrounding us. Plus the fact that we DID start out the season very well. I do think expecting tourney wins, frozen fours, or titles is a little much. But the way we have been playing lately makes the NCHC look like a buzz saw to us.

Losing to Alaska snuck them in, which added a 2-1-1 to our TUC. I wouldn't rely on them staying above the cut line.

Expecting the NCAA's with the team this year is looking unrealistic unless some secondary scoring breaks out. I *do* expect another trip to Detroit.

I hate to say this, but they looked like a Culhane team last night. What happened to being miserable to play against? What happened to the sharp passes and the consistent breakout plays? I hope they get their game back quick.

It all comes down to holding these young men accountable on and off the ice. Blash was an absolute stickler on this, and it seems like maybe Coach Murray might not be.

I remember the days of watching Vince Bellissimo skate around and do whatever he wanted to (read: what his dad was telling him to do). Jim never held him accountable for his mistakes.

1. The frosh have no idea the commitment it takes to win. So far Oesterle is the only one stepping up on the ice.

2. Does Coach Murray "know too much" about hockey to look at what worked last year for Blash and press START on the copy machine? #theseboysarentprofessionals
